    Getting into the NYPD

    Hey guys,

Im looking for some opinions here. Lets start off by saying I took the test with the NYPD two years back. I got called up and am going in January to start the processes. I really have no problems except when it comes to the background investigation. First off back when i was 17 i got a tresspassing ticket for being at a park past sundown. That same year I got issued a summons for smoking weed, when I went to court the judge told me baisically not to screw up for another year and the charges would be dropped. Fast forward two years and i got 3 speeding tickets, two of which were dropped to parking violations. I am now 20 years old am in college for my third year now with a gpa of 3.2, have a perfect credit score along with a perfect work record with many refrences...So heres the big question, do you guys think I could pass the background investigation. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Background would probably be alright. Psych is a whole other animal. I don't know though. Your best bet would be to keep your nose clean and give it a shot. Depending on how bad you want it you can join the military. That would help a lot. I know the Navy had a program called like National Call to Service which involved 2 years active and then 2 selres and 4 inactive or something like that. I don't know you should look into it.

Sadly none of those things will keep him out of the NYPD. Perhaps in 5 years or more years when the recruitment/retention balances out, but right now, no.

even now that the department just got a raise you think theyre still farily lenient with the hiring process? I believe If I go through the process in January Im hoping to get into the academy by July and that should be the second class after the NYPD has mentioned the new salary hike

There's now 23,000 former employees of Lehman brothers looking for work now too.

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

Yes. It's still going to be a while before they get up to a decent man power again.

Uhhhh, how can a speeding ticket be "dropped" to a parking violation. I never heard of this.

I never heard of this inside the 5 boroughs of NYC but I can't completely rule it out for some place else as I don't know how they work. (sounds like bs anyway)

Happens often enough. I know people who have had that happen. Won't happen in NYC or Suffolk County in NY (as they have an AAB (administrative adjuciation bureau) that ONLY handles VTL moving violations, but most of the other courts that you go to for moving violations in NY can be pled down to non-point violations or parking violations.

It can also happen for criminal court NYS VTL violations (reckless driving, speeds in excess of 30mph), etc.
