    Knock it off guy.

If I were you, what I would do would be hookers and flapjacks. But that's just me.

And, since when is 17, 953 OVER 18k posts? Maybe you should spend a little less time razzing established board members who are also verified LEOs and Moderators of this board and a little more time on the math skills;)

As a new member of this site you should spend a little more time being introspective. My comments about Hollywood were directed at someone like you who may have visions of police work as what is seen on TV these days. The drunks , dead bodies, crashes, donestics and repeated crap that we put up with is enough to make someone who thinks they want to do our job...to not want to do it afterall. Especially for a cut in pay.

I have been doing this job since 1986 not to mention 4 years in the USAF Security Police. My starting pay was 15k. I am also a patrol Sgt, Advanced Accident Investigator , FTO, Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer with a side certification in Haz-Mat Inspections. I don't clean up Haz-Mat. I merely inspect it as it is going down the road so hopefully it doesn't become a Haz-mat incident.

My post count has a lot to do with the fact that I have been a member here for over 5 1/2 years. Your criticism of said count really doesn't mean a lot to someone like me who has a couple of decades of experience under their belt , a lot of which I freely use here to better people who come looking for answers or advice about getting into LE. I actually have a nice life outside of my PC but thanks for your concern.

As someone who claims to want to get in to the field of LE, you would be best if you checked your attitude at the door as people like me decide if people like you get hired.

I have no doubt that I could get on somewhere now if I tried, but I had to step back and look at the money. I would have had to take a 60% cut in pay to start.

I wanted the job for the variety of the tasks performed and the people I'd meet. If I can help people and make a difference then great and I'd give 100% to do so but that's not the reason why I applied. I wanted the job for me and me alone.

I actually laugh when I hear people say that if I were dedicated enough then I'd do it anyway. I usually respond that if they would let me crash at their place after my house is foreclosed on I would.

People that dedicated scare me. If I wanted to do "God's work", I'd be a minister. I just wanted to drive fast, carry a gun and beat up people.

I was going to comment, but given the OP's over sensitivity to overly descriptive words and RetDetSgt's fear and concern for other posters in the thread, I'll leave well enough alone, since it appears I sometimes peg people's paranoia meter... :D

I knew two guys who both took pay drops of about half. One of whom is still in the job and the other left after about 6 months out of training school. They obviously wanted to do the job and thought it worth dropping their wage, but it's not for everyone. One suggestion though - you need to learn to read situations a little better.
If it wasn't for people, my job would be so much easier

retdetsgt, and how many jobs let us get away with that?

I do, however, think that people can be doing "God's work" as police officers. But then I also think that people can be doing "God's work" as teachers, doctors, or what have you. There is a Bible verse I think that goes well with this.

Actually, anyone who comes from a clean heart, and just wishes to love others for the sake of loving.....that in itself is doing God's work.

(Wink) I completely concur with your post, Seeking.

Probably too little too late but money doesn't always equal happiness. I took a pay cut when I switched careers (granted it wasn't as significant) but overall I am happier and on the right path. If you can do it, go for it.
