the presence of a non-job-related medical condition or handicap, or any other legally protected status [/QUOTE]

Unfortunately, for law enforcement, almost any medical condition or handicap could be look at as job-related. Still, good luck to you

Yes, heart problems are ALWAYS considered job related medical conditions.

That's why I suggested disclosing the heart problems BEFORE beginning the testing process, as it's a waste of everyone's time to spend months going through all the steps in the process only to be disqualified at the end.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Please don't assume that I will not tell them that I've had a heart condition. I spoke with my cardiologist and they are going to send me the necessary paperwork to give to the department.

I appreciate all your comments. thanks again.

So do we, but they got that way well after they were hired and finished their probationary period.

My dept also doesn't care what someone's doctor tells them, they're sent to our cardiologist and he determines if it's a problem. Of course, I can't speak for any other dept, but I'm pretty positive ours would pass him by. At that age, he's not going to be able to work all that many years anyway. And any potential to have to pay him a 30 year retirement (that's what ours does) because he has a heart attack anytime during his short career wouldn't be worth it.

We don't discriminate on age, but we are particularly picky about heart and orthopedic problems.

Well, I've now passed my oral review board, my physical, my psychological test and today my polygraph. I'm waiting on the results of my drug screen which I have no doubt that I will pass with flying colors since I never use drugs.

    Good to go!
