NYPD - Will I Be DQ'ed for Sick Abuse?

I am planning on applying for the NYPD. Have a Bachelors, a mostly solid record, no skeletons in the closet, well-liked at current University security job... BUT for the past two years my sick time has been bad, especially so this year. I thought this job was the end of the line for me, wasn't willing to work NYPD for the poor salary, but with the current raise, I'm going to give it a go, God willing.

Now. I know that many say NYPD is desperate for warm bodies, and I know MANY slip thru the cracks with far major offenses than mine. However, with the recent salary increase, I wonder how much more discerning the background check will be? Any thoughts on if I'm likely to get thru? Thanks for your opinions.

So ...has your use of sick been for legitimate reasons ?

    OR

Have you been abusing it as you seem to claim ?

If you have been really sick, that isn't good for hiring and will raise eyebrows by the medical side of the process.

If you are just playing hookey, that isn't good either.

Well, are they personal days that you're allowed to take off? I don't know the sick policy of your current employer so it may or may not be a problem.

As for the NYPD, if your current employer has no problem with it and doesn't mention it when they call to verify your employment, I wouldn't worry about it honestly because they won't find out.

But on that note, grow up and do your job. This isn't the type of job that you can just take off whenever you want to. Be prepared for 6 months of only your regular days off if you get into the academy, and then when you get to your command as a rookie, you're on the bottom of the food chain so if there's a man power issue, no day off you (except your RDO's which aren't guaranteed).

Playing hookey is for High schoolers. If you arent mature enough to show up for a job at a University why should we think it will be any different if you get hired? NYPD was never the only game in town if you really wanted to be a cop why didnt u apply elsewhere? What in your backgound makes you think that your only shot is with a very large department who needs people badly?

" Playing hookey " causes manpower shortages , which means we have to scramble to find someone to fill at OT which costs more $$.

It's time to grow up and show up for work , that is if you are serious about holding a professional position.
