Misdemeanor but not charged... help please?

Long story short, I was cited for a misdemeanor charge for "reckless driving". It was for going 30mph in a private school parking lot with pedestrians around during daylight. I was NOT arrested or taken into custody.

The owners (of the private school) and I forgave each other, and he dropped the reckless driving charge against me (meaning I did not get charged in the end, nor did I have to pay any fines/penalties).

    My questions are:
    1. Will this ruin my chances for hiring? I will disclose everything and anything, but I wanted to know if they will DQ me.
    2. Is this permanent on my record, even though the charges were fully dropped?

I have a clean criminal record beyond that, and was never involved in anything more/less serious.

Please take into consideration this happened 2 years ago. Thanks everyone.

It probably wont hurt you too bad but you need to make better decisions behind the wheel.

i do not mind disclosing the information; it is probably the most serious offense i'd ever committed in my life (although I was not charged in the end)

i just wanted to know if i am wasting my time to apply to agencies (california). ive worked at police depts at 2 universities as the campus CSO, so i am very serious about everything.

    thanks again for any help/advice.

So you're saying that you were wrote up then the cop just tore up the ticket? If you weren't charged then when you're asked if you've ever been charged with anything you say no. Provided no other charges have been filed against you of course.

No, I was never issued a ticket, HOWEVER the cop gave me a "case number" and told me to wait 4-6 weeks for a notice in the mail which tells me whether or not the owner chose to press charges against me.

I talked to the owner that same day after talking to the cop, and the owner told me he will NOT press charges against me. And several weeks later, I got a notice saying no charges were pressed against me.

I was written up, but no ticket issued other than a case number, and the letter stating I had no charges.

    Hope that info helps?

    Interesting turn of phraseology there.

Seems that you felt the other party offended you in having you charged.

I assure you that based upon your own statement of how you were Reckless, that you were indeed. The fact that the charges were dropped against you because the owner declined to press them for whatever reason, makes you no less guilty.

Yes, I understand I am guilty either way, but are you implying that getting charged and having the charges dropped against me will have the same affect on my future chances of becoming an LEO?

And it's real mature of you to sarcastically criticize me when I am sincerely asking for help. How big of you.

The owner apologized to me for having snapped/blown up at me. That is the reason why I stated "we forgave each other", because I apologized in return for speeding around in his parking lot.

I find it quite pathetic that some of these responses are focused away from my original questions. Please, if you have nothing positive to say, then mind your business elsewhere. Thanks

Listen junior, you're painting yourself into a very small corner here. You're the visitor here and if you can't conduct yourself in a manner befiting then don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out. You asked your question, you got your answer and if a little critism gets you this upset then you should consider a different career because you'll never make it in LE.

Crossing Suzanne IS NOT a smart thing to do.

Its not like anyone here "owe's" you a thing, Mr. Thang.

Someone did you a disservice by dropping your Reckless, since you surely have learned nothing by the experience.

You can't be serious in thinking the owner owes you an apology for being completely irresponsible for carry on as you did in the school parking lot, do you?
It seems you were more concerned with yourself than another individuals safety.

Instead of blaming everyone here, whom in your eyes made inappropriate comments, you might wish to reevaluate your actions a little more closely.

My tone of this post is not argumentative, but rather conversational.
If you dream of being an officer, you should be able to go with the conversational version of my post.

A report was taken. You weren't arrested. You weren't ticketed. You weren't charged in the end. That's what I gather. I doubt this will harm your chances, but as has been said, make better decisions in the future.

What WILL harm your chances is your attitude. Like another poster said, if you're skin is this thin, then this is definitely NOT the career for you.

I never intended to cross anybody. If my reply to her came off as offensive, then I do apologize for that. I do find your reply slightly hostile. I was never upset over anyone's criticism, because there was no criticism in the first place, only sarcasm. It seems as though you are the one upset over my last post, as shown thru your hostile defense. It is ironic that the criticism in my last reply has gotten your attention...

And to Suzanne - Conversational indeed.

The owner wanted to apologize to me for blowing up on me in the beginning. By saying "I forgave him", I meant I forgave him for his outburst, not because he forgave me for my immature actions. By saying "we forgave each other", I was implying that the forgiven actions between both parties were individual entities.

I did not mean to directly attack any specific persons here. I am very sorry if you feel that way and I will work on improving the tone in my writing on the forums.
