    Lapd Dq

I got a letter from LAPD saying I was DQ'd because of my credit.

    Should I appeal?

When I did my BI, the investigator told me his son had tried for LAPD but was DQ'd for his credit, but got onto Inglewood three weeks later.

I had a back up plan to apply to smaller depts, but I guess it time for Plan B.

i don't think you can appeal your credit. it either meets their standards or doesn't. you can't change it before the next check they would do on it.

i would abort mission and activate plan b. you can always lateral.

    Dzeltman,
Was your credit REALLY bad such as a bankruptcy or over $10 grand in debt or were you just a few thousand in the hole. The reason I ask is that went I got hired as a cop I had perfect credit. Since leaving the dept. I have gotten into some small debt and wondered how that might affect me if I ever applied to go back to the dept. Maybe it was your credit rating. I do have some debt but I have always made the minimal payments so I guess I still have a high rating because I get credit card offers every freakin day in the mail. I practically have carpal tunnel from tearing the things up!:D

in no way am i in the position to explain this because i wouldn't know, but i would think that they wouldn't make a decision on how much debt your in becuase someone may have just bought a car or a house which would throw them in the hole. i would think it went on rating.

usually if you get dq'd for your credit it's because you have a history of not paying your bills on time. LAPD DQ's a lot of people for a lot of different reasons.

it sounds like LAPD can be very picky now because they aren't having that many classes.

Not hiring as much means the applicant pool has a larger ratio than it did before.......we can be more picky as to who we hire.

Credit is one aspect that relates to maturity and responsibility.

Your credit could be an issue and easily defended if you chose to sue. This is what they said was the DQ reason, but it is just one part of the background.

I got DQ'd for the same reason, or so they said. I appealed, but lost the appeal, even though the credit issue had just fallen off of my credit report. Fortunately, I just got picked up by LASPD (I am in their "pre-academy" class right now). Check them out at www.laspd.com
