    My Misdemeanor?? : (

First off, I would like to thank all of the verified LEO's for all of their helpful insight on this forum; I have been browsing on here off and on and learned alot about the hiring process. I just filled out the online form to start the application process for the CHP and I being that I am from Minnesota I wanted see what your thoughts were on my chances with my background. So here it is:

    Criminal Background:
    (1) Misdemeanor - Minor Consumption - 2005

    Driving:
    (1) Suspension - No Proof of Insurance - 2004 - Was reinstated when I brought proof to the court hearing.

    (1) Speed -2004

    (1) Illegal Equipment Violation - 2003

    Credit:
Made a lot mistakes in College; Credit Score was at 485:eek:, but I paid everything off within the last 6 months, now I owe nothing and all of those acounts switched to paid in full.

    Experiences
AAS Law Enforcement - currently pursuing bachelors all online.
    EMT
    Good Job References

I am now 22, the only thing that I am terribly worried about is my minor consumption; Do you guys/gals feel that this will be detrimental to me should I even bother flying out to California to continue the process or should I let more time pass.

Didn't mean to post my whole background just wanted to get a real idea of where I stand.

    Thanks in advance!

Overall, you don't have anything listed that would be an automatic disqualification for any agency I've applied or worked for, which is good. However, being only 22 and I'm assumming having only college and jobs while in college, you may not bring enough "life experience" to the table (I'm not clear whether "EMT" means you're certified as an EMT, or if you've actually worked full-time as an EMT for a number of years). The minor consumption, while recent, won't be a killer to your application if you bring something to the table in the form of full-time work. Some departments may bring you on board, however, a large department like CHP with hundreds of applicants, may overlook your application over someone coming out of the military, working full-time while gaining a bachelors degree, or otherwise bringing more life experience to the table. A lot of departments tend to hire those in the mid- to late-20's.

I'd say apply and give it a shot. If it doesn't work out this go-round (which has happened to many of us, myself included when I first started applying), go out and get a full-time job, pay your bills, show your responsible, and apply again in a few years.
