    background questions

i guess i'm looking for ideas on my background, so here goes:

not to get to personal, but these offenses could have happened between ages 14-18

14 years ago as a minor, arrested for possession of weapon- charges dismissed
13 years ago, shoplifting $40 item- reduced to disorderly conduct, restitution paid

    since growing up,

    since ages 20-32

served 4 yrs active duty military w/ honorable discharge

i hold 2 state issued licenses for my profession.
i have worked at the same place since discharge from military for 6 years. current job has extreme fiduciary and ethical responsibility as i personally handle hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, have access to people's personal info(dob's, ssn's, annual incomes ect), and credit card numbers.

no tickets, accidents, or any brushes with the law since 13 years ago.

am i auto dq'd or do i stand a chance

    thanks for answering

Comparing to other applicants, you look fine.

Just be completley honest with your little run-ins and go from there. People make mistakes all the time. And it looks like you moved on from them and bettered yourself.

I agree with Hockey, you sound good to go.

I too, think you will be fine.

The difference between you and some of the other posters is two fold.

Number 1 is time. You have over a decade between today and your past indiscretions. Not a week or a month

Number 2 is that in that time you have honorably served your country and have a steady, responsible work history. Most of the other posters do not

I've also read about moral turpitude dq's in new york state.

Does anyone have any input on how these work? (i.e; time limits, ect)

I'm more concerned about the shoplifting issue than anything. The easy thing to do is say I wish it never happened, but realistically, what's done is done.

The passage of time and the fact that you were a juvy mean a LOT to a prospective dept.

Also , what you have done with your life as an adult ( military and professional licenses) also mean a LOT.

    Start applying.

Maybe it is simply me, but the way you say "I handle hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash" and "I have access to peoples SSN's and other private information" sounds kind of weird...it seems like you are subconsciously and deviously saying "I have the ability to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, and I can steal hundreds of peoples identities and credit card numbers, but Im not going to. Im just saying that I could if I wanted too".

Again, I could be comprehending this in the wrong way.

Thats exactly what he's saying. But he's using it as an example of his trustworthiness.

bell4fan hit it on the head.

dinarguy, that is where the extreme fiduciary and ethical responsibility come into play.
