NOT LEO... i think the tickets may hurt you but not DQ you. The marijuana is a little excesive but it all depends on the agencys.

I got hired w/ a 580 credit score, 3 speeding tickets, 1 wreck, 1 failure to yield (caused the wreck) tickets were from 2003-dec 2007.

But I have no drug use,no criminal history and 8 years military. So...it all depends on the agency.

You have some bruises but perhaps you can work on your current situation to improve who and what you are. What GOOD things have you done or can you do in your community for instance ?

I have thought quite a bit about your post MCSAP. Out of all of the threads on background that I have read, yours is the one that really made me stop and think. I know that I have been a good member of society (i.e. never being a menace or having run-ins with the law). However, I don't think I have been a productive member of society (i.e. haven't served in military or done a lot of volunteer work). This is what I want to do (be LEO) and this is how I would like to be a productive member of society and my community, by serving those in my community and making there lives safer.

What I am getting at is that you have some negatives in your background that can and probably will be " detrimental " towards your being hired. Besides your wanting to serve your community as a LEO , what else have you done or can you do NOW to pay " reparations " for your misdeeds/lifestyle that in some manner will perhaps offset your mildly sordid past ?

Applying to be a LEO is very competitive and you need every edge you can get.

Most people are " good members of society " , but not everyone goes out and actually does something tanglible to contrbute back to their town, state or country.

What have you done or what can you now do to polish up your background ?

I was kind of wondering the same thing about myself. What do you think my chances are of getting on with a department.

I've done Marijuana about 4-5 times. I got an alcohol citation when I was 16. And have drink and drove before but never was caught doing it.

I did all that stuff when I was young. Then I join the military when I was 18 and never drink or did anything ever again. My driving record is totally clean. And I'm 26 now. Thanks for the help.

These guy should also keep in mind the difference between best qualified, qualified, and barely qualified when there are a limited number of available slots, which is almost always.
