I've been lurking around on the forums for a while, and have made the decision to become a LEO.
I am 21 years of age, and have one year of college at Hofstra University under my belt. I have been living on my own for about 6 months now, and currently work at a bank as a CSR.
My background is nothing spectacular, but isn't the worst I have ever heard of. I have never been charged with a misdemeanor or felony, and have only a few tickets in my driving career. I have one ticket from when I was 17 that was for running a red light. I paid the ticket, and accepted the points. I then was charged with careless driving for a violation that I did not commit, and fought the charge. I lost this (I was 17 and did not have an attorney, and honestly gave it my best shot).
My credit is not too great, I have two charged off accounts in collections that are being paid off from when I was in college and taking classes up the gills (my plan was to graduate early, but ended up leaving and now work full time until I can afford school again), and was not able to hold a job. Both of these accounts are almost paid up.
Now, I've heard that BPD is a pretty lenient department when it comes to hiring, as I can easily pass all of the physical requirements, and most likely pass the written exam.
My question is, if there are any BPD officers on the boards, how stringently do they look at credit as a factor? I would like to take more college classes after I become a police officer. I've only tried marijuana twice, both over three years ago. How often do the big city departments hire young?
Thanks in advance.
