Can anyone tell me how long it, approximately, it takes from the time you submit your application until you get your acceptance letter. I'm currently in the Marine Corps and I was just trying to get some sort of time line. Thanks.

kind of depends on when you submit your application. i submitted mine in february, for the september academy, and it took almost 6 months. however if you submit your application in june for the september academy, obviously it wont take 6 months.

but seriously thats like asking what the weather will be like january 4th of 2010. The hiring process is not specific to one individual, it depends on what comes up during the processing, the department needs etc.

Here, if you submit an application in June for the September Academy, you will not be considered for it. They aren't going to rush to get you processed because you waited to turn in the application; they will process you like everyone else, and if you aren't done by the start date, you get rolled into the next academy.

there is a deadline for submission. i think for the september 08 academy, the deadline was end of june, or 1st part of july. so as long as you made the deadline, your elgible for that academy.

Deadline was June for the September Academy but I just took my written tests on 7/29/08 for the March 09 Academy and was told that we may get called to go to the september academy if our backgrounds are clean, not exactly sure why.

i would think you would have had to go through the entire hiring process, which after the oral board is only 3 additional days of testing, just takes em awhile to decide if they want you to do that testing.
the reason why is if they dont fill up the class(and they may do 2 classes this september) instead of making a qualified, ready to hire applicant wait until march, they'll get em in september.

annnd they like to take their sweet *** time scheduling for that conditional testing...as you can see by my timeline...but I guess it's normal.![]()

Tluker,
first thing you need to do is get in touch with a recruiter. Probably from the area you are from if you are from Texas.
When I started the process, I was still in California and I got in touch with Cpl Sandra Barrette at the academy.
When I got back to Texas, I went to the regional headquarters that was in my area which was Garland, Texas and got in touch with a recruiter.
It took me about 3 months honestly and I was in the September 07 class. I started all my paprework in June.
Have some documents at hand so you don't have to get them. Have a credit report, have a copy of your birth certificate, have your contacts lined up who they will be in getting in touch with. My background investigator was a strange cat, he asked me to give him a name of someone I didn't like and vice versa, now why would I have the contact info of someone I don't like? You might want to have one of those if you know any handy.
Check the website, if you submit your application before a certain cut-off date, you will more than likely be able to make it to that academy date.
Good luck and Semper Fi. Be forewarned right now, the DPS academy is not the Marine Corps, they operate entirely different.

Well, the application is for a Trooper Trainee position, so if you are selected to be a Trooper Trainee you are more than likely going to be in the HP. Now from there you have three options...Traffic, Weight Stations, and Driver's License Division...however, they told me they will probably be phasing out the DL Division in the near future and they need the most bodies on the highways enforcing traffic laws and running interdiction.

Thanks for the help GySgt White. I'm trying to decide if I want to wait until I submit my app. I want to go to the March class, but I'll have been gone from my family for 6 mths by the time I get out in Dec. and then to leave in a couple of mths for another 6 might be too much. Thanks again and Semper Fi!
Thats close. Once you graduate you are a state trooper, assigned to 1 of 4 divisions: highway patrol, commercial vehicle enforcement, drivers license, capitol police. However most do go to HP.
Good luck with your decision. Just know you won't be gone for a whole 6 months, you do get weekends off.
