    Just wanted to check

I just wanted to check to see if this could be a potential problem in any way...

In 2004 I was heading home, by myself, on the freeway in the middle of the day on a four lane freeway (two lanes on each side). The freeway cuts through a bunch of hills that go on for like 5 miles, so I was going below the speed limit. My left front tire blew out while I was driving through the hills. My steering column (or whatever its called, basically steering became impossible) was damaged, but I managed to make it mostly onto the side of the ride. There was no cell phone reception so boy was that fun. I basically waited for semis to see me. Anyways, a police officer saw me, and he helped push my car completely onto the side of the road. When the tow truck arrived, the police officer left. I was not issued any kind of ticket, and no police report was written.

So on my personal history statement when it asked if I had ever been involved in a car accident where I was the driver, I put yes. I then put a paragraph similar to the one above (without the color commentary thrown in), in the section provided.

Is this something I should worry at all about?

One extreme to another. One guy is a dog molester and wants to be a cop, the other blows out a tire and is worried about being a cop. LOL.

No sir, you have nothing to worry about. If thats your biggest issue, you should make a good applicant.

The dog thing made me choke on my sandwich lol. Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing that has happened to me. That and I take a medication for ADD, but that horse has already been beaten to death, set on fire, and eaten. I don't think that will be a problem.

A mechanical failure is not your fault unless it comes from you neglecting to take care of existing problems with your vehicle you were aware of. If you had not knowledge and something happened your ok.

Having a flat tire is not a traffic accident. Unless there was damage to your car or another car, or to property, either by your car or someone else's actions, it's not a traffic accident. It's just blowing a tire. You should have answered that question "no", but this will still be a non-issue for whatever department is reviewing your application.

There was damage to my car. Like I said, the steering column got messed up. Should have been more specific with what that meant. By the time I got out of my car to look at my tires, my left wheel was bent and when I tried to turn the wheel it didn't want to turn. The underside of the vehicle was so messed up it ended up costing more than its KBB value, so it was totaled in the end : (.

The underlying issue the department you're applying to is trying to find out is about your driving abilities. Are you a responsible driver, or are you constantly slamming into the back of others' vehicles because you're driving too fast to stop at a red light? That's the sort of thing they're trying to find out, not whether you blew a flat and had damage to your car as a result.

Good to hear :D. I haven't had any tickets in over 4 years, and one of them I fought in court and won. So I think I'm good on that front. Human nature to assume that something in your past can screw your chances here, but I can't really think of anything besides that and the legal prescription I take! : )

If you did not strike another vehicle, a person, an animal, or an inanimate object (tree, guardrail, etc), or if you did make contact with another vehicle or an object, and there was no damage to either the object or the vehicles then you did not have an accident.

A tire blowout and then you striking another car is a car accident. A tire blowout and you limping to the side of the road is not a car accident, its a flat tire.

    Car accidnet = no problems!

Taking a perscription drug for ADD for 15 years you didn't need = big problems!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

    Lol Joey...a few things:

    1. That horse has been beaten to death.
    2. I didn't not need it for the entire time I took it. It did improve my behavior a LOT in elementary school and whatnot. It is just that over the last 3 or 4 years I have noticed that my behavior has become a lot less hyper than it used to be, and since it isn't uncommon for people to outgrow ADD when they come of age, I'm willing to bet when I see my doctor in August, I'll be able to come off it. My BI emailed me back saying all I need to do is see my physician and let him (the BI) know what he says. I don't believe he is under the impression that I am riddled with drug addiction :P.

Lol the can has already been opened. Let us leave the add topic down and dead, because I did a much better job of explaining it to my BI then I did to you guys (I didn't put in any of my opinions, I just told him the facts). I know you guys only drew your conclusions from whatever it is I have said on here, but let us let that topic die, because I have already moved past it.
