    BackGround Check...somewhat disturbing

Hello and Thank You for Reading,

I am Planning to submit my application for a local Police Dept. at the age of approximately 24, but am worried because when I was 14-16 I did some things that I am scared will turn up in the polygraph, especially since I have a great amount of integrity and am going to admit to them. Like most teenagers my hormones were racing and i was experimenting with my more "sexual side". I downloaded some pornographic videos where the girls were closer to my age and I experimented a little bit with dogs. I have absolutely zero interest in either anymore because it was just a very strange stage I went through, and honestly I could not even tell you what I was thinking, probably because it was only my hormones thinking. Trust me when I say that I am disgusted just as much as you are by my actions. I am going to admit it to the polygraph examiner mainly because I am an honest person, but I am scared of this for two reasons. One, because I am afraid it will DQ me immediately, and two, because I am afraid that might place me under arrest even though I was never convicted and was only approx. 14-16 years old when both were committed. By the time that I apply it would have been at least 7 or 8 years. Some other things I will be admitting to is downloading music and having consumed alcoholic beverages while underage. I did it very little, but I still understand that even one single instance of underage drinking or piracy is a crime. I have never been charged, suspected, or convicted of any sort of crime, all of these would be confessions. I have had 1 speeding ticket EVER but it got 60 days deferred so theoretically my record is completely clean. These are all the cons., I am just looking for opinions on if it will still be a great concern or will it be charged as a "youthful mistake" or something of the sort.

WTF? I don't know any teenagers that "experimented" with dogs due to their hormones!!! I think that instead of seeking employment you should be seeking counseling.

I, like most boys I guess, was a pretty hormonal 13-present(LOL!) year old male. But it never crossed my mind to download child porn or mess with a dog.

Doggy style, maybe, but yeah, I'd have to agree with North Patrol. It may be best for you to seek some sort of counseling if you still have these sort of thoughts.

In Arizona you would not be eligible to become a police officer for having committed an undetected felony.

From Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13 (Criminal Law) (editted for brevity):

    http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument....13&DocType=ARS

    13-1411. Bestiality; classification; definition

    A. A person commits bestiality by knowingly doing either of the following:

    1. Engaging in oral sexual contact, sexual contact or sexual intercourse with an animal.

    D. Bestiality is a class 6 felony, except that bestiality pursuant to subsection A, paragraph 2 of this section is a class 3 felony punishable pursuant to section 13-604.01 if the other person is a minor under fifteen years of age.

From the AZ POST Standards website (editted for brevity):

    http://www.azpost.gov/

    R13-4-105. Minimum Qualifications for Appointment

    A. Except as provided in subsection (C) or (D), a person shall meet the following minimum qualifications before being appointed to or attending an academy:

    4. Undergo a complete background investigation that meets the standards of R13-4-106. A person may begin an academy before the results of the fingerprint check are returned. However, the academy shall not graduate the person and the Board shall not reimburse the academy for the person's training expenses until a qualifying fingerprint check return is obtained;

    R13-4-106. Background Investigation Requirements

    A. Personal history statement. A person who seeks to be appointed shall complete and submit to the appointing agency a personal history statement on a form prescribed by the Board before the start of a background investigation. The history statement shall contain answers to questions that aid in determining whether the person is eligible for certified status as a peace officer. The questions shall concern whether the person meets the minimum requirements for appointment, has engaged in conduct or a pattern of conduct that would jeopardize the public trust in the law enforcement profession, and is of good moral character.

I am assuming that many of you are getting the impression that I am still interested in the things that I did many years ago. As many of you said "you need counseling". I am NO LONGER INTERESTED in either and it was a very weird and abnormal stage I went through.

The fact that you were interested is disturbing to begin with. Its like saying you used to like to have sex with dead people but that urge has passed. EVERY poly I have ever head of asked if you have participated in some sort of abnormal sex. They ask this for a reason.

I thoroughly understand that it is disturbing, but I swear that I am no longer interested in the least bit in either. My bottom line question is could I still become a Police Officer since these crimes were done around the age of 15. It seems weird how they can accept someone that had a cocaine problem 5 years ago, but is now clean if they cant accept someone that did some weird things only once or twice approx. 9 years ago.

Whether you are still interested in those actions is irrelevant in this case. Bestiality is a felony in the State of Arizona and, so far as I am aware, is illegal in every state of the Union. A buddy of mine who was on the hiring team for his agency advised of an Explorer who admitted to it during his poly. He was permanently DQ'ed.

You need to check the statutes (laws) for your particular state, but I am Dove Certain (99.44 %) that you are not eligible for employment as a police officer due to actions not in keeping with 'good moral character'.

Sometimes our youthful actions come back to bite us in the @$$. In this case, I would say it bit elsewhere.

Departments will not accept someone who had a 'cocaine problem' at any point in life, let alone 5 years ago. They will allow someone who experimented with the substance join the ranks provided they did not exceed a maximum amount of use.
