Eventually, you may have to face the fact that this is a hurdle that you can not climb over. No matter how much you believe that you are qualified for the job, your individual situation can be a legitimate reason for an agency to disqualify you. You should have an alternate career or position in mind.

I am sorry.

I just want to make or break this job based on who I know I am, and I am having a bit of trouble accepting that might not be the way it goes down. I would rather not make it because of not enough spots then because of my diagnosis.
What you dont seem to understand is that a LE agency looks at your whole person. They can't just take the good parts and gloss over the not so good parts. You cannot go back in time and change any of what you have done. Regardless of all of the admirable characteristics that you have , you still have been using a Sched II drug for a LONG time and fully admit that there appears to be no good reason to do so.

You came here looking for adivice and opinions from us and we gave it to you. We aren't on the hiring board for your local agency but you can bet like people LIKE us are. Those in LE tend to think the same way nomatter where we are in the country or the world.

We make no money or gain no fame by telling you what we know. You can choose to use the info or take the word of another person who is trying to get hired over all of us who are already on the job.

Accept that you are what you have done and only what you do from this moment forward can change anything.

Only Long Beach can tell you if it will affect your application or not. IF, you sent the email you should soon find out.

Like everyone else here I question you taking a medication that you don't need. Instead of telling all of us that they (LBPD) didn't ask about you taking medications tell all of us why you didn't tell the Doctor when you took the medical?

You're screwed when they administer the drug test, and you DIDN'T divulge this.

That, and all Departments I know of have prescription drug logs... and Policy which requires you to divulge any prescript meds you're on.

I just got off shift and am lazy now. I have a job as LE.

I read the part where you stated you didnt say anything about your prescription. That was enough. I have a prescript for pain killers from recent surgeries, but I don't ".......kind of take it out of habit".

I told them all of this in my oral interview.
The only thing they do not know is that I take Concerta for attention deficit disorder. It is a prescription in my name, I have been on medication for ADD since I was in elementary school. The only reason they don't know yet is nobody has asked and it hasn't come up in the paperwork.....

unlike acreature I read the whole thread. No where in it did I see where you disclosed that you were taking medication. Well you did a few posts back. But you clearly state in your first post that you passed the physical.

Did you or did you not inform the medical Doctor when you took your physical that you were taking this medication for ADD?

Like everyone else here I've been through the process & like most I've been through the process for a few different agencies/departments. One of the things that was standard at all the physical was to inform them of any drugs and or medication I had been taking.

    So please Don't Bull Sh!t a Bull Sh!tter.

    Did you F'up? Sure did.

Will it cause you to be DQ'ed? Only the department you applied with can tell you that.

    UCLA2008,

I clearly remember when I filled out my hiring packet, there was a section that asked me ALL medications, prescription and over the counter, that I was taking at the time. Even Toys' R Us has a section about medications you are taking. Leaving anything out is lying, an intentional omission of the facts.

As to you taking it to keep your mom happy....grow up. You are 22 years old. You mom is no longer your master, you have only yourself to answer to. If YOU, as a GROWN ADULT, can function without taking the drug, then why are you still trying to appease mommy??? You say you want to be a LEO, then start acting like you have a clear head on your shoulders by doing what YOU need to do.

You say you don't need it, don't take it. I don't need Ritalin, so why would I take it???? While there are some psychotic drugs out there that people HAVE to take (Zoloft and Lithium are two that come to mind) if you and your doctor can conclusively prove you don't need it any longer, why do it?

As to how it will affect you being hired...your biggest mistake is not telling them the FIRST time. You have shown your capability and proclivity to hide things. Nice first impression. ;) It's not like you just started taking Nexium 2 weeks ago and forgot to list it. You had been taking ALL your life, showing a dependency, or else you wouldn't be taking it.

You have some damage control to do with your BI, and by you not being upfront and honest about it, you will probably not get very far. Its VERY hard to trust someone when they aren't honest with you to begin with.

I guess I can understand your confusion on the physical thing. What I meant by that is I passed the physical agility test. I have not had my medical or psych or anything like that. I am not yet at the phase where they can even ask me about my medical history. I did however, a few days ago, as I said in one of my posts (I think) e-mail my BI telling him about my diagnosis and my prescription.

I will say this one more time as clearly as I can. I HAVE NOT BEEN ASKED A SINGLE TIME ANYTHING ABOUT MY MEDICAL HISTORY. I HAVE NOT LIED ABOUT ANYTHING TO ANYONE. I HAVE VOLUNTARILY EMAILED MY BI TELLING HIM ABOUT MY DIAGNOSIS/PRESCRIPTION, BEFORE HE EVEN HAS THE RIGHT TO INQUIRE ABOUT IT. I understand that when I said I passed my physical you all thought I meant my medical, I actually meant the PHYSICAL agility test. I guess that was something to be assumed and I didn't need to write it, but I did in my original post. I have NOT been through the medical yet, and I have NOT failed to answer anything asked of me in an honest way. I hope this clears that up. This is the order that things go at NBPD:

Written test - done (80 something percent, i forget)
    Physical agility test - done
Oral Interview - done (90 percent)
Placed on eligibility list - position 6
Fill out personal history form - done (turned it in today)
Background investigation - not yet started (they go from 1 down)
    Medical - NOT YET THERE
    Psych - NOT YET THERE
Anything else - NOT YET THERE

I hope that is clear enough. Sorry about the apparent confusion.
