    Juvinelle record, and education.

    Hi,

I had 3 misdeamenors as a juvinelle, but my record is sealed. I am 19 and just enlisted in the Army for 4 years, but I had to get a waiver to enter because the military dosent see any record as sealed. Well my question is if its possible for me to become a CHP or Police Officer after my enlistment is over, or am I DQ'd or on thin ice for the same reason (no record is sealed to them?). I have had no speeding tickets or drug use etc.

My second question is will I need to take college courses, I graduated HS and have took some general ed stuff at the local community college, I noticed they have Administration of Justice courses. Will I need to complete these classes, or will a degree in business (what I plan to do after my Army enlistment is over unless these classes are nessacary) do?

And is there any reading I should do on the topic of becoming an officer, I searched on Google but didnt find much.

    Thanks,

    John

to find out more about being a cop just search websites of departments you are interested in and as you will see info from what they do, programs they have, and required training for their employees.

i can't answer any questions on sealed records because i don't know about them. however, the fact you have a record isn't a good thing. call a recruiter and if the misdemeanors you have are disqualifying them let the department know about them when you apply. THEY WILL FIND OUT SOMEHOW <---------true.
whatever it was that you did, you going into the military will give time in between you applying and the misdemeanors which is good. just don't get in trouble in the military or it won't show that you have matured from your days.

the chp doesn't require college. however, they have thousands and thousands of applicants each year. they are also going to be coming off of a hiring freeze and applicants that have been waiting are going to apply (meaning even more applicants). if you want a chance i would recommend some college (any subject, criminal justice, business, biology, ect) however a degree would be good. the military will be a plus. for california police departments, i would also recommend college. there are more applicants than jobs out here now and departments are raising minimum requirements to 60 units or an aa degree or higher.

    hope that helps a little.

Your "sealed " records are not sealed to any government agency. McDonalds can't find out a thing and neither can a nosy person but federal, state and local govenments can. You still have to fill out job apps and they ALL ask if you have been arrested and why.

As has been suggested, visit some police dept websites and look at their requirements. For the most part, juvenile offenses wont' DQ you but there are always exceptions.
