Army

Just figured I'd toss this one out, since I'm seriously weighing both options and my Trooper recruiter hasn't really given me alot of info and my Army recruiter is really leaning on me.

So heres my deal, I ranked 84xx on the Trooper test for NYSP, but I got a 93 AFQT with a 130 GT on my ASVAB. So I Can get into OCS without an issue and will likely do so after I've been in for a while (there is no OCS class at the time I leave for basic, so yeah).

My MOS would be 68W (Combat Medic). Heres my conundrum though, if I go, I can't process to be a Trooper, if your active duty, they won't touch you. I guess I don't mind re-testing, I doubt I'll get any dumber than I already am (haha).

My question is this, how much of a help would an army stint as a 68W help me get in? Is it worth it to wait for next testing cycle and go for army?

Any ideas and insight would be appreciated.

What do you want to do for a career? Being a medic or anything else in the army isn't going to matter all that much for hiring purposes. Hiring is determined by testing, how well you score determines when and if you get hired. If being a trooper is your primary goal, skip the whole army routine.

If you're thinking of OCS, do you have a college degree? If not, the army probably won't let you stay in past the initial four years you serve after OCS. They need a lot more lieutenants than they do captains and above. If you do have a degree, then the army could be a viable career choice. If you decide it's not for you, after your enlistment you can try for LE again.
