Westchester county,New York police departments.Good law enforcement angencies or not?

What do you guys think about the pd's in the cities of Westchester County,New York? Are they good jobs? A lot of action or just political bs? I personally think cities like Yonkers,White Plains,Mt Vernon and New Rochelle are great angencies with lots of action and oppurtunity.
I want to know your feedback on this matter especailly you Joey lol!

Most of them pay very well. The County Police is an excellent agency with a very good contract, and a lot of specialized units. Yonkers is a good department to work for, too, though there's some political stuff going on right now. I've heard that White Plains guys work a lot of traffic posts, but I've never heard any of them ***** too loud.

Mt. Vernon is the one that really isn't anyone's first choice, due to a combination of factors: lower pay than the surrounding agencies, a generally held belief in historically lower hiring standards (you couldn't make a case for that from the Mt. Vernon guys I've worked with, who are outstanding), and the fact that the city is a ****hole. There's a fair amount of political nonsense flying around, too. They just got a new commissioner, so we'll see what he does.

Westchester county PDs are generally extremely selective, and many of the smaller towns and villages don't hire very often. most of these agencies don't have a high degree of turnover.

The nice thing is that most of the towns and villages hire off the same list, which is established by one test. Some of the larger departments have to be applied to individually, however.

those country police departments outside of the city do pay well from what I was told. I remember reading a story out of the daily news about a public safty officer for westchester county ended up making 250,000 dollars in one year making him the highest paid police officer in the nation for that year. As for taking laterals from other deparments , again I dont know but I know one thing for sure they wont take NYPD officers because of Retention issues simular with PAPD and MTAPD and recently with FBI. Try also sufflok and Nassau County, also rockland county.

Thats not entirely the case. There are plenty of NYPD guys who have moved over to Westchester PS recently, and the issue with PAPD is that NYPD refuses to release personnel files.

Here's what I heard. The Westchester County police takes your time on the back end like the mta police does. You start out at the same pay as a rookie county cop would but when you retire you get the county pension plus the pension from the short time you had with NYPD. For the town and villages such as White plains, New Rochelle,Greenburg etc. Its a straight latertal. If you left the NYPD with 3 years you come on the job making the same money and having the same time as someone with three years in that paticular town or village pd....I can be wrong. If I am please correct me!!!
