    My knee

When I was 16 years old I was shot in the knee with a .22 short while me and my friend were hunting rabbits. The shooting was a complete accident the rabbit ran between us and he swung to far left and into my field of fire. I had knee surgery and apart from a little stiffness its fine.

Would this be a problem with my medical check???

yeah taht will be problem, then again you were only 16 years old, and how old are you now? Sometimes during the medical tehy look and see how much time has gone by since an major medical incident has happened. Like if anything medically serious happened in the past 5 years they will like to see some sort of documentation to be furnished by your clinique, hospital, or physcian so it can be reviewed by the police medical staff. Since you got shot in your knee that may cause some problems and they will put you on medical review. Before you go to the medical just get a letter from your doctor and a chart from your doctor and that should be A ok I hope.

Will you be able to carry out the duties as a Police Officer, both physically and mentally is what they want to know. So, can you run, move, flex etc.

If a little stiffness is your only problem, then I wouldn't worry about it, it should not be a problem at all.

I will be 21 in October. I can run with no problems and I hike regularly with a 40 pound pack.

Thank god it wasn’t Cheney or he would have shot me in the face.

No doubt about that, mikecrazy. I'm curious as to why non-LEOs are allowed to answer questions related to the background and hiring process. Should be like Ask-a-Cop IMHO.

If they are currently going through the process, they could provide valuable and personal experiences that might've happened recently. Let's say someone who did have past knee problems and was able to advance through the application b/c it doesn't give them any more problems was able to say that. I wouldn't let one poster (who isn't LE & that isn't well liked) dictate the ability of those of the rest who could potentially provide an answer of value.

Rusty, please understand that itsdalaw1983 is neither a cop or medical doctor, and that his response above is purely something he pulled out of his you-know-where. If a medical doctor clears you during the med eval and you're able to complete the physical fitness requirements you should be fine.

I did not pull that answer where the sun dont shine. My answer is clearly from personal expierence from what Ive seen heard and what my friends who are on or use to be on the job told me, and who were also going through the process. I know im not a leo or a med Ross but im not no body which you already may ASSUME that I am, but when I was going through the process of being a leo for either the nypd or nycdoc ive seen candidates during the medical be placed on medical review for having joint injuries within the last 5 years that they have reported on paper during the med exam. Hopefully Rusty your knee is not a problem from you performing your job, espicially since your a young and active guy. The only way your medical doctor is going to clear is if you disclose that information about getting shot in your knee during the medical exam, but if you mention the injury they will probably ask you about it, and they will will want you to furnish some documents asap from your doc. I believe that you will pass your medical rusty you have nothing to lose, and goodluck with your processing rusty wish you the best buddy!

So you state the complete opposite of your first post when you're called to the carpet? How interesting...

Look at the bright side ,rusty. you have a way better chance of becoming an LEO now than if you had been shot with say, a 30-06.

Me thinks it's not an issue of itsdalaw not being a LEO or a doctor, but more of his asinine remarks everywhere else on this forum.

and clinique is a brand of women's make-up isn't it? Think my wife wears it.
