Hey listen I just want to thank everybody for their responses and for helping me out here. So now I'm just gonna focus on losing weight and staying away from that crap, even if I lose a couple of friends in the process. Thanks again everyone.

Use the time wisely between when you used narcotics and when you're eligible to apply w/out that mistake becoming a DQ. Take some classes at college, (as you mentioned) lose weight, & volunteer some of your time.

As far as losing weight, it's just not about diet and cutting down on sweets, it's about getting yourself in shape and stronger. You'll plateau very quickly by just cutting sugar, you're going to have to work very hard to drop 40 pounds and will get discouraged but will have to fight through that and keep pushing.

Volunteering, I would use this time to show that you do care about the community as most police departments are community based (COPPS) and doing good for the community is a future positive and more likely to show that your one infraction was a dumb youthful mistake.

that marijuana testing goes deep. I have a family friend that lost his job from rockland county PD because of marijuana not because he did not smoke it but his wife does and ended up in his system via second hand smoke and was fired after the urine sample came back. I think the NYPD only check for 6months back so it wouldnt be a problem i hope. THe hair sample test is no joke, they can even tell if you have series diseases with the hair sample such as sykle cell or diabetes and even stds like hiv and hepatits c through hair sample. If anything just try to stay away from marijuana for a while and try to reapply with the NYPD. Also stay in school, try to find a job simular to policing like security or doorman. work on the CJ degree and try for the masters or maybe law school. I my self have a BA in criminal justice and a minor in police science from John jay college and im still not a verified leo at this point hopefully i will by august. but any good luck man and stay of that colombian gold!

That may be what you're friend claimed, but you can't come up positive on urinalysis for marijuana due to "second hand smoke" exposure. You have to be smoking (or otherwise ingesting it) to pop positive.

Its really funny but this is a true story. The officer got fired and is also black listed from any civil servant jobs in the state of michigan. Just stay away from marijuana any other illegal substances.
