    Tuberculosis???

I was going through the application process to get into the police academy and my TB skin test came back positive. The doctor did chest X-rays and ruled out that I have active tuberculosis. He advised at some point in my life I was exposed to infectious disease and prescribed medication to hopefully rid my body of the bacteria. The medication is 95% effective in fighting TB so it never becomes active in my system.
I have advised the agency I am applying for and they have to look into the matter… I believe I may have gotten it from my friend who just came back from Iraq, but I cannot be certain. Do I have a shot at becoming a police officer with “inactive” TB?

I honestly have no idea, but good luck and take care of your health first.

If the agency said they're looking into, just wait and see. I would imagine that if the meds allow you to get a negative test you will be okay. The skin test is super sensitive making a false positive preferable over false negative.

If your chest x-ray came back negative (no active TB), don't worry. That's actually very common. A lot of people test positive to the skin test and negative on the x-ray. And a LOT of people have inactive TB.

I had a friend that came up positive for TB when we came back from a deployment to Kosovo. He was put on meds and has had no problems. He's just not allowed to drink. (something to do with the meds and alcohol not mixing well at all) He was hired by two different departments without any problems. Hopefully you have the same luck
