    Post Police Explorer Program

I recently learned of a police explorer program in my area. It seems like a very interesting and exciting program and I'm looking into becoming a cadet. How much would more attractive would joining this make me to a department?? I haven't been an angel, I'll put it at that, I've already posted a thread detailing my bio in depth previously. At 19, I'm restricted from the civil service list until April of 2009. So I have a little over a year of wait time until I can even hope of becoming an officer. I scored an 85 on the exam and am currently ranked 144th on the list out of I believe 900 or so who took it. Would the explorer program give me the edge over the competition I need?? Or should I take that one day a week that the explorers meet and take a college class or two?? With work I cant do both at the moment :(

College. Explorers will not help as much as college.

IMO, 19 is a little old to be getting INto (starting in) an EXPLORER program. IMO, you should be looking at more "adult" positions... YMMV

    +1

Most people join the program when they are 14 or 15 and if they stay with it they jump into more of an adviser role once they hit 19, 20.

Thanks all. I really didn't know anything about the program and the officer I spoke with didn't say anything about me being too old, however the age limit is 21 so yea lol. College it is ;)
