    Useful employment prior to PD

Hi, I'm about to finish up college and am planning on applying for a job in LE. Is there any kind of job I can get for the time being to give myself "Law enforcement experience" in the eyes of my future employment. I'm aware that I can't exactly get the specific kind of experience they look for, but I'm just looking for something that may be useful in the future, as well as look good on my application. Will local police departments hire a 19 year old looking for some type of experience, even if it's just grunt work? Ridealongs?

dispatch, or jailer. But even if you get a job at Burger King, bust your butt at it, do good, be reliable, that way, when you apply, that can be a good work reference to you. You dont necessarily have to have LE work experience. Just show that your a good, reliable hard working person in whatever you do.

MOST jobs offer you some type of skill that will be useful in the world of LE. For example people think working the window at Burger King drive thru is a waste but if you think about it your dealing with people constantly, talking to them, etc. much different situations from LE but everything is relevant even on a small scale

haha, sounds like a plan Seriously though, I am considering the military, but being held back by my family and girlfriend. They would let me go, but surely wouldn't like it. At this day and age, who knows what kind of situation (or country) I'd be walking into over in the middle east. I'm planning on talking to some local cops, all 2 of them, to see if there's any thing they can do to help me get my foot in the door. Besides, I'm pretty confident I'd be promoted to Chief of police within 2 weeks in THAT department :D

I know in my city the local pd has a cadet program that the age req. is 19. I'm sure other cities have a similar program. Scour the state and local gov't job boards for something that you think will benefit you. When I was your age I worked as a state security guard. Not great experience but I sure studied alot on the night shift.
