    Background investigation

As soon as i graduated highschool. I wanted to go to college but didnt have a pot to piss in to pay for college. So I got involved in this learning community program at a local college because they payed for your first semester. The program was one of those experiment things colleges do to see how it works out. Well i ended up hating it, because everything we were doing was no where near in any shape way or form. Also i live in the southflorida area and had a car payment that was killing me, not to mention the 350.00 a month in car insurance. Im a 19 year old security officer and by no means make that much money to pay that plus rent and cell. To make a long story short i put my college career on hold to try to catch up on my car payment and insurance. I know this is by no means positive in anyway, but will an agency "not" hire me because of this. I want to take full advantage of tuition reimbursement program at a local agency but was just wondering.
Thank you all for your input it's highly appreciated.

What an agency likes to see is a finished degree or a honorable discharge from the military. You are only 19, you have plenty of time to finish your degree, I didn't get hired until I was 25.

And make sure you aren't driving the newest car on the block either. With 22 years on the job, I drive an 18 yr old car. Because it is cheap and it runs good. My wife does have a new car though

LOL by no means am i driving a bmw.... i wish. I drive a nissan Sentra specv. And like i said im only 19 and have full coverage insurance. i had no credit when getting the car so the payments are high. As far as my driving record goes, i have gotten one ticket in my life and it was driving with an expired tag 6 months or less. Keep in mind i live in south florida where everything is expensive. Im thinking about going to the navy! Kill two birds with one stone and get my degree while in. I just hear that when they say well pay for your school its not the truth. I hear they take it outof your check or something like that, Im not sure. if any military personnel in here can give me advice that would be great

The Navy, or military in general, will pay 100% tuition. They will not withhold anything from your check. Now, the GI Bill is withheld from your check. $100/month your first year, but you get back at least $39,000 in return. The military is a great option. It looks like I'll be a Texas State Trooper, and have never set in a college classroom. They just liked the 8 years Navy.

There are several education programs available at no cost to service members. The most common no-cost program is the tuition assistance program. The most common contribution based program is the Montgomery G.I. Bill (MGIB).

Additional information is available at these links:

    http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/benefits.htm

Consider calling or visiting a base education office near you. They will likely take the time to inform you of the many education opportunities offered to service members.

Another bonus: CLEP exams for active duty service members are often free at base education centers.

However, there is a pay cap per FY and per credit.

You must exhaust all of your MGIB benefits, typically 36 months of full-time college student status, in order to achieve the $39,000 in return. The current rate is $1101 per month. The rate typically changes annually.

There is also a buy-up / kicker program offered with the MGIB, which enhances your MBIG benefits. Contributions to the kicker program are in increments of $20 up to $600. The return on your "kicker" investment can be as much as $5,400 with a $600 contribution ($150 per month for 36 months).
