    Those nice therapists/counselors

    I've been reading these posts about background investigations, and have learned that you sign a waiver to give the BI permission to ask your therapist about your history with her/him. Now, I would think therapists and counselors would be sweet nurturing types of people who are pretty protective of their clients. Do you have ways of questioning and getting information from these people so that they don't leave the interview feeling like they betrayed anyone? Just curious.

    Sweet? Nurturing? What kindof therapists are you talking about? Most therapists I know are kinda twisted. Maybe that's just here tho.

    They usually just want a copy of the records, or a brief synapsis of when & why you went to see them. If you were depressed and wanted to kill yourself, they probably won't hire you. If you just had some minor thing going on due to a life event, etc, then it shouldn't be an issue. They want to make sure that if they give you a gun you're not going to hurt or threaten yourself or others.
    DONLON
    I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.

    Well, I'd think if you went into a job that involves listening to people's issues for hours on end, and sympathizing with them while they cry and leave soggy tissues all over your couch, you'd have to at least care on some level.

    Then again, maybe you'd have to be a little twisted to want that career. :p

    I have to agree with Jake. Any of the therapist that I have known are probably more nuts than half of their clients.
    Growing up we had a lady who was a psychologist renting the house next to ours. She had cats and parakeets, but would clip the birds wings so they couldn't fly. On top of that she would leave the birdcage doors open so they could get exercise. She would always complain on how the birds kept disappearing. :eek:
    Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"

    When a client signs a paper stating that personal information can be divulged, then every note and dx (diagnoses) can be told to the person who is asking. No, there will be no feelings of betrayel, but if the psychologist feels that you would be a danger to the public if you became a cop, the therapist would be very honest. They are bound by that by ethics.
    However, with that said, if you have gone to a sexual assault crisis center, you can subpeona all you want, you can sign all you want..the vast majority of them (myself as well..) WILL NEVER...EVER divulge session. UNLESS, the client admits to purjery during an investigation. But I digress..

    We are NOT all sweet and nurturing. ;)

    We do care...sometimes we care too much and end up sleeping with our patients.....:mad:

    IF she is renting..she sucks as a psychotherapist...;) , if she is clipping bird wings; well, there is something very...um, wrong with that.
    Perhaps in her mind;
    Wings=Penis. :eek:

    Just saying....

    There is a reason why I am going into research and not treatment.
