real/fake drugs

hey guys. i just signed up and am scrolling down the boards. i just wrote an intro in the rap section. if you haven't read it yet i am a las vegas metro PO and just got all my stuff finished to go into the traffic division. anyway, i thought i would take this opportunity to ask a question that my brother-in-law called and asked me a couple of days ago. it is similar to the question about disqualifications below so i didn't know if i should start a new post.
so my brother-in-law says he used steroids a few years ago. he says he believes they were fake because the guys was caught by another friend selling fake steroids. he also got an infection and no effects, good or bad, from the drug. he wanted to know, if he is 99% sure they were fake, if he should write down that he used steroids in a LE hiring process.
my advice to him was to tell the bi that he used what he thought was steroids and that he is almost sure that they were fake. i also disclaimed to him that i know nothing at all about steroids and little about back. investigations.
i guess my question is if what should he say to the bi?

Yes, he should definitely disclose it. Even if they were real he probably wouldn't get DQ'd for it (unless he was using them recently).

I agree. Any signs of dishonesty will rule him out. And if it came up later it could cost him his job and maybe career.

True story. Subj puts down he never used drugs on his academy app. Starts applying for jobs, decides to come clean and puts down he had used MJ in the past. Subj was hired but the paper work caught up to him. His certification was suspended for 2 years and he lost his job.

True Story #2. Different person, but same as above. Only his punishment was they took 2 years of retirement from him and let him keep his certification.

Yeah he needs to tell them, just because they turned out to be fake isn’t the point, he bought and took what he believed to be real steroids, that’s all that matters.

The dept. had a list of drugs and the eligibility for hire, time since last use, and so on........

Steroids are an issue.....whether they were real or not is not what matters, but that he bought what he thought were real steroids and used them..........not exactly a plus.
