Paying for the Academy? (Non-affiliate)

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with paying for an academy yourself? I want to attend as a non-affiliate, but I'm not quite sure how I'd afford it... on top of $4,000 or so for the course itself, I'd have to go six months without an income. I looked into unemployment, but it's not an option for someone who voluntarily quits their job. I can work PT on weekends, but 1. I don't know if that's feasible given the academy workload, and 2. it wouldn't be much money.

I did it, but my academy had a part time class. I worked all day and went to the Academy at night.

It took twice as long (a year instead of 6 months) but I also could not have afforded to go with no work for 6 months.

I lived at home with my parents and fortunently, they were also willing to help out with my bills while I was out of work.

California (Northern).

I've talked to a few local agencies, and they consider full-time non-affiliates as first priority candidates and part-time non-affiliates as second priority (due to the apparently low quality of the local part-time academy,) so I'm really trying to avoid the part-time academy.

I'm going full-time to AACOG in San Antonio TX. funding it myself. I have some cash stashed away (about 10 months worth) for a rainy day(s) so it will help a great deal. I'll also keep my weekend part-time job just to help a bit too and not to mention, I'll use that time to study. I work at a hotel and it's usually very slow. I start the academy on May 27 so wish me luck.:D Later.
