    San Jose Police SJPD

Is there anyone here that works for SJPD or is going to apply to their testing coming up? I hear it is a great department and most officers enjoy working there. I would like to know what everyone thinks of this department and if any one else is going to attempt testing there.

I have a couple friends that work for San Jose and a few more who went through the process. All I can say is good luck. A few of them got royally screwed going through the process. Two said screw it and are now working for other local PD's. It's a difficult process, so the best of luck to you.

i'd say good luck too, i went through the process last year, and made it into backgrounds, but the background investigator, all he did was patronize and insulted me. (In my opinion, he was trying to get me to give up in the process.) So I didn't give up and it got to the point where he decided to screen me out of the process, right before I was about to take a poly. In my opinion again, the pay is definitely great, but they are overrated and overpaid. Santa Clara County Sheriff's Dept is a lot better and they are just the next block over. I'd say, if you do apply for SJPD, be prepared not to be disappointed if you don't make it all the way through the process.

Made through the process so far and the only thing left is the hiring board in a few weeks. Gotta admit though, it was TOUGH! This is a no-joke department and everyone I knew who tried out the same weekend I did has just about washed out. I checked the mailbox everyday for the rejection letter because I thought for certain my application package was toast. Nevertheless, the decade between my dumb teenage mistake, I'm guessing, must have cushioned the blow. Gotta admit, the high standards are what drew me in that department.

    Written and Physical, Jan/passed
    Background interview/passed
    Poly/passed
    Psych and Hiring Board/ ?

Good luck testing, but don't bet your house on getting in! Try other departments in the meantime because I met a ton of laterals shooting for SJPD.

Not for San Jose, it isn't.

The cost of living there is so high, that 70k translates to about 33,000 in St. Louis.
