A bit of a past... But does it mean no?

When I was 18 I engaged in civil disobedience, plead guilty, served probation, etc. I experimented with substances for a very short period.

I'm now in my mid-20's, have held down a steady job for 4 years, pay my bills, clean my home, etc. I've been good, responsible, mature... heck, I haven't even had a traffic ticket in 5 years. My behavior is healthy now and I don't suffer from any mental illnesses that would cause any mental health or stability concerns. I'm reasonably intelligent, performed very well in school, decent on standardized tests, am often a top performer in whatever I do and receive awards and/or recognition. Have a long history of civic engagement and volunteering.

Now that you know my background, I'll get to my question. Due to a year of "finding myself" and some of it's implications when I was 18; is a career in Criminal Justice something I should write off or is it still possible?

civil disobedience? Is that engaging in a riot or disorderly conduct?

What substances as well? You need to expand a bit more on your background before we can give reliable advice.

No, nothing violent or out of control. I literally walked over a line and arrested myself.

And to answer the second part, pot and a couple party items.

Quit playing cat and mouse. what the hell are party items? If you want an honets assessment you need to be more specific.

Coke and X will get you instantly DQ'ed from most agencies.

When I think of party items I think of balloons, clowns and cake....NOT coke and X.

I looked at several different cities I'm interested, and most state that as long as it hasnt been within 60 -72 months. I've heard that you can be rejected, but then I hear otherwise and read otherwise. I'm a bit confused.

So apply and find out for yourself. We don't hire you, they do.

You are certainly beating around the bush here. You on are the net and you are anonymous. You want an HONEST opinion of your background from a bunch of cops who have " been there and done that."

If you REALLY want an honest opinion...spill your guts.

You may find departments for which you meet the minimum requirements.

There is a world of difference, however between meeting those, and being the best qualified applicant, i.e. the one who gets the job.

Much of your competition for the position will not have done those drugs, and will therefore have a leg up on you in the hiring process.
