You aren't kidding. I know we were warned in EMT school to avoid giving medical advice even to family members for that very reason. If you are wrong, move outside your scope of practice, or the patient screws the well-intentioned advice up, you can kiss your retirement fund goodbye.

For the record I am not "giving anyone advice"

But for my own litigious safety I will remove my posts.

I am now done this thread, I believe its original purpose has been exhausted.
I am on a lot of lists...
There is no excuse for stupidity- except genetics.

Through research, it has been determined that people who suffer from psych. disorders have certain signs PRIOR to suffering the disorder. Long Term PTSD (NOT sub-threshold..or PTSD that is NOT deabilitating) is one that comes to mind; it has come to light that certain people who chronically suffer from that disorder followed a 'profile' prior to the trauma that brought the long term PTSD on.

Very interesting. I get the feeling you are referring to people who live with PtSD for years and don't respond to treatment. I know a lot of people get misdiagnosed in the first place, and aren't treated for a while since they are sometimes understandably reluctant to talk about their trauma and seem to function well although they still have PtSD symptoms. What do you think about people who are functioning ok but don't actually get well for years because they weren't treated? Do they fit any statistical 'profile'? Like I said, this stuff fascinates me, I am kind of a psych nerd .

Down the line, when you get into a Grad. program and tell people that you are an 'expert'...you WILL be called to the table.

In the psych world, an undergrad degree is the equivalant to a middle-school education. If you have a Masters and give out advice about meds to your patients, you are opening yourself to law-suits. I have seen it happen, time and time again.

    With good reason.
I do want to thank AC for his response, he made some interesting points, and I recognize he wan't trying to give a medical advice to a patient in this case.

I also apologize for being the one who inadvertently started the move to hijack the nice OP's thread. i didn't think this much discussion would come up about my nerdy topic.
    Always we begin again.
