HELP!! Q regarding CA POST re-certification

    Hello everyone,

I just had my interview the Sheriff this morning and I got a problem. My CA POST-Basic Certificate expired (I think) and I need to get re-certified (I think).

    Heres my situation:
I graduated from the academy in Dec 2004. I was hired as a Police Officer from 8/05 to 12/05 (approx 4 months) and resigned on FTO program for personal reasons. Since then I've been working in a non LE capacity. I applied for a Deputy postion Dec 2007, had my post entry level testing and oral board interviews. Today I had my interview with the Sheriff and mentioned to him that my certificate may have expired and I told him I'd look into it. Unfortunately the next Recertification course isn't until end of MAY.

I looked up the CA POST website regarding recertification and a course description from where the re-cert course is (Yuba College); and the wording is still a little confusing to me. So my question is, Do I need to take the recertification course or does my 4 months with the PD "bump"/extend my certificate's expiration date (3 years right?)?

Need this info ASAP as I'm filling out my background packet and scrambling to get all the other required paperwork in order. I also have to turn it in by Feb 26 so, again, any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Should have asked the department you interviewed for, Sure its not the first time they have encountered this.

IMHO I've found that figuring out POST issues yourself is about as easy as calculus. I would either contact the PD's POST Liason that you're applying with or contact POST directly.
