I'm not yet a permanent resident...

    Hello everybody,

It's been almost a year since I took the written test for the Chicago Police (Jan 2003). I went through all the tests (phyc, medical, POWER). Finally, I received a letter from an investigator who will do my background check.

But here is where I think I MIGHT have a problem.

    1. I'm not a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (yet). I'm applying for a Green Card. I almost have it (had interview, but they messed up...). The point is I'm here legally, working. But how i'm I going to get my FOID? I called Illinois State Police, but they want a copy of alien registration card, which I don't have YET. My investigator wants a copy of FOID too.

Well, essentially that's my problem!! I know a lot of department requires US citizenship, but I think Chicago is one department that actually allows residents. I don't know the actual law, and I don't want to talk to my investigator about this problem yet.

What should I do? Anybody can help me would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    TC
