Hi all,

I have a facebook account and on almost every background packet it asks me for the address to that account. I have no problem providing this, but what exactly are they looking for as far as red flags?

Would any of you suggest I just delete the account?
I have made sure there is nothing in it alluding to any questionable conduct and made sure all my "friends" are decent people. Any other suggestions?

I do not have Myspace.

They're are pretty much looking to make sure you are who you say you are. I.e. not making your profile pic one of you doing a line of blow, not having a pic of yourself dressed up like an executioner with a gun pointed to your head, no pics of you copping feels on pased out drunk chicks, (seen it, seen it, seen it. :rolleyes etc...
Also the seemingly trivial things: diplaying pictures of youself involved in not necessarily illegal, but questionable, activity that reflects poorly upon you. If you don't care what others think of you now, why would it change when you are an officer?

Also look at what people are posting on your wall, and vice versa. I'm sure you don't want commments about the afformentioned photos blanketing your profile. Not that those photos even exist because you shouldn't be doing that kind of crap.

And don't delete it before your done with the process. I'm no BI, but if I were to find out an applicant deleted their account when they found out it gets checked, that would raise a red flag itself, regardless of its content. It shows poor taste and a possible integrity issue.

I ask questions because I do not feel I have the clout to answer questions from others... that is the job of you verified's... just being humble

Amarula is a cream liqueur from South Africa which basically tastes like a fruity Baileys... in my opinion, it is one of the most scrpumtious substances around! Try some if you can find it, usually at high-end liquor shops.

If you have nothing to hide, be forthcoming. Nothing helps to bolster the fact you're an honest person than being upfront and forthcoming with the information a background investigator requests. Scurrying around trying to delete or hide stuff, whether damning or not, doesn't look good.

Some may differ with me on this, but very few people on Facebook, including the bible-beaters, has only goody two shoes friends.

I'm not going into the field of law enforcement (I'm an MS Finance major); however, I know very well my Facebook page is fair game in employment decisions. I think Mark Zuckerburg (or whatever his name is) developed a great platform for young people to stay connected in the world via technology. In my opinion, he has defined Generation Y.

Be proud of who you are if you feel you should be; don't delete your Facebook page because you're afraid of some employer finding out who you are.

People sometimes post stupid if not incriminating stuff on such accounts. If you have NOT done so, you have nothing to hide. If you have...

Oh, and remember: Once it's on the Internet, it's there forever. Don't put anything on the Internet that you do not want to haunt you.

And moreso, once it's on FACEBOOK it's on there forever. Most people don't realize that when you delete something, it's not actually gone.

My background investigator found me on myspace and of course it was clean.

My investigator and myself are friends now.:D

I'm 2 weeks into the academy right now and when I applied I gave them my Myspace account. All I have up there is family pictures, and some of me doing judo and hunting. And I have it set on private. One of the detectives told me they just look to see if you have pictures of yourself "acting like a f**king idiot on spring break or something." If you have just innocent stuff from your life up there fine, that's what they want to know. If you have pics of yourself drunk, partying, acting like a "f**cking idiot" and talking yourself up all big and bad you won't get the job. Someone with all the same qualifications but a page like mine will. Nothing to hide = nothing to worry about.

Also a good way for them to find more people to talk to who know about you.
