    Background record

Is it possible to get a copy of your background record before you apply to see what it contains so you are prepared for what they will be seeing?

You mean your criminal record? You should know about your background.... your criminal record should be available to you at a cost at the PD (or elsewhere depending on your area).

Well, I don't have a criminal background, but am not sure what all they will be accessing; there has to be more to a BI than a criminal background check and employment I figure. I just want to be sure I don't exclude anything on the application and look like a liar because I forgot to mention it.

Oh, okay. If you want to make sure you don't exclude anything from your employment history, I suggest contacting the social security office (probably have to do it in person due to security procedures). They will give you a list of all the times your social security number was used in connection with the jobs you have had. It also can help with former addresses.
Also, you can (at a cost ;) ) get a copy of your driving record from the DMV.
    Does that help at all?

I have filled out the form for my work history with the SS office, just waiting to send it and I can access my driving record online. So I think I'm clear then, thanks!

yeah definately get your driving record especially if you've been driving for a while. I withdrew from one departments process because I had a ticket from 10 years ago that I had totally forgotten about. The officer didn't believe I could forget and wanted this detailed explanation of the circumstances, when I checked with DMV i didn't recognize the location that I recieved the ticket in and thought it was a mistake it was DMV in PA which makes mistakes all the time anyway he wanted me to go through the whole court process of getting the ticket cleared which I thought was ridiculous because I didn't live in PA anymore and I had already surrendered my PA license for a MD one. I knew I had other apps out that were further along so I just withdrew...

anyway i guess i rambled a little get a copy of credit report also.

    Lawdawg,

If you are in vegas, you can go to the records section of the pd and pay for a background where they will run your criminal history and give you a copy. This common here for adoptions and other employment positions.

So do you have to know your entire employment history since you were 16?

Good call too!! I forgot to mention this. That is something they look at too, and its always good to get a heads up on anything before the BI finds it.

I just talked to the SSA and you can have a from mailed to you that you fill out for your work history but you have to pay based on how many years you want to go back, for example 10 years is $35, she said it’s explained on the form, but I guess that’s the only way to know for sure the exact dates you worked and where you worked if you don’t know.
