I have thought about Law Enforcement as a career for quite some time. Public service has always been tugging at my gut. I have read books, been on ride alongs, everything I can do to make sure this is what I want(and it is), and that this will be a career not just another job. After much thought I am going to try and make this all become a reality. Given that I get through the first initial stages and to the background portion of the process, I am concerned about a few items that I know will be red flags, any knowledgable advice and comments are appreciated. Quick glance:
Age 32-will this be a disadvantage?
Credit: 760
College: B.S. Major University-4 year starter athletic team.
Occupation: Account Manager/Outside Sales
Never used illegal drugs, never been arrested,
Still happily married-10 years, 2 little ones
Tickets: 1 Speeding, 1 minor moving violation-all dismissed, 1 seatbelt violation.-
Now the red flag portion: After graduating college, I attended OCS and was kicked out for scoring poorly on the academia portion. I know what you are saying... hey I screwed up a great opportunity. I am embarrassed. After returning, I bounced sales jobs like a bag on a luggage carousel until I found the industry I am currently in. I know they hear this a lot, but from the ages of 22-24 I was lost, immature, I guess you could say I was in a bit of an identity crisis, trying to find what I was to do with my life. I have been stable in my current position for the last 8 years and doing well within the organization. I just question whether my early unstable professional development years and the OCS dismisal, will cause concern and prevent me from my desire of becoming an LEO. I am guessing it could. They will look at that and immediately say "if he couldnt make it through OCS, why do we take a chance on sending him through the academy?" thanks
