    why be a cop

Why do people choose a profession in law enforcement? What drives you to choose such a dangerous career? Pay? Benefits? Personal motivators? Etc?

What would you tell a person the best part of law enforcement is? How would you promote what you do to new generations of law enforcement agencies?

I served for 20 years in the military and law enforcement felt like a good transition for me. I enjoyed serving my country and I wanted to continue to do so, just on a smaller scale, like my community. I get to directly see the results of my labor in law enforcement. I didn't always have that in the military. Wearing the uniform and serving the public feels like what I am the happiest at.

The pay is not the greatest in the world starting out, but it definitely increases over time. I could've gotten a higher paying job out of the military, but I really wonder if I would have been happy. The benefits are great and it's a tight family of people to work with.

I was exposed to LE as a kid through my dad, never wanted to do anything else. As far as I'm concerned i consider it a calling.

Honestly I do not know if any one can truly answer the Why did you want to become a police officer question. I know I sure as hell cannot.

This is one of the questions I always have a hard time with. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to become a police officer. I actually used to get made fun of when I was in school because of my career decision but it has never stopped me and nothing but god himself will stop me.

It is not because I want to serve my community and all of that other BS everyone spouts off now days.

Why could anyone possibly want to get shot at and could very possibly lose there life over people who do nothing but piss all over our police? Why does anyone want to tell someone there loved one is dead and never coming home because of some scumbag? Why does someone want to go to a call for some idiot parent who decided to put there three year old baby in the microwave because he/she was crying?

Simple answer nobody knows. It is in all of there body and soul that is the only thing I can think of or even come to reason with. Law Enforcement is a diffrent breed of humans yet are still humans who have emotions and feelings jsut like the rest of us but they decide to protect and serve and deal with these atrocities on a daily basis.

I have said it before and I will say it again "Law enforcement Officers are the real heroes of our communities" You guys have nothing but respect from me and I give my thanks to those who protect myself and my family.

I do it for the same reason that anyone else does a job they choose. I love it! I can't tell you why I like the hunt, but I do. It's in me. I don't do it because I am helping others, though that can be a good side-effect. I don't deal with decent people...only $h1tbags and their friends & family.

...and no, I am not one of those guys who wanted to do this their entire life. I stumbled across it and I would never go back!

I wanted to be a pilot for the longest time, then I got to fly an airplane and Im not to jivved about bein a pilot anymore. In High School my teacher told me our State Patrol was hiring Office Assistants, so I took a job there. I started there and eventually became an Explorer because I wanted to get a taste of what the field side was like. I loved being an Explorer, so when I turned 21 I became a Reserve Police Officer. I do it because it's a rockin' good time. I get to meet all sorts of people, One minute I can be up movin' and shakin, the next Im sitting on a report for the next two hours, sometimes I get to be nosey and all detectivey-like, sometimes I get to drive fast, I get time on the range for free, being a cop is just... I dont know how to put it... an Experience I guess.

I wanted to make a difference, no matter how large or small. I went on a ridealong and loved every second of it, even if it was slow. I came to love the city I was in and decided that I wanted to keep it safe for people who loved it as much as I did.
The family/team atmosphere was a big turn-on for me as well. It seemed like a great fit, and I'm happy that I get the chance to serve the public.
