    Unhappy Hartford PD

I'm currently #10 on the list of applicants that have gone through oral boards and drug testing to continue in the process for the HPD. This department is in such poor financial shape (as is the City of Htfd) that I understand the delay. However, they recently received Federal funding to put more LEOs on the city streets. There have been to date, 48 shootings this year in the city. They simply do not have enough LEOs on the streets to combat this problem.

Question: What the hell are they waiting for? I have been number 10 for almost a year now and I am willing to take a huge paycut from my current career to work for them. Mainly because this is a city that can use good cops that want to make a difference. A difference that would be tangible almost immediately in my view.

Simply wondering if others are experiencing this type of issue throughout the rest of the country.

I rode with Hartford just recently. I'll tell you, I don't think lack of LE's is the biggest problem.

Red tape is a wonderful thing. NOT. You just have to wait...

Stump: Good News. I got a call from the BI Detective at HPD. I have a meeting with her this Thursday. Wish me luck.

Alot of funding that departments receive, like from COPS grants, require matching funds from the city. And some places have a hard time coming up with the scratch.

At what the HPD currently pays Rookie Cops, it should't be that difficult. At these rates, it's practically volunteer work.

Stump, just got out of a 4.5 hour long meeting with the other 29 candidates. Long & Short: I got a conditional offer of employment (which means nothing) and I have my poly on 11/25. On we go!!!

Estimated that about half of the 29 were not asked to continue.

Rats !! The only poly I got was when our dets were practicing to ge their certification and needed "test" subjects. I ddin't have to look into the steely eyes of the determined investigator, I was lying and trying not to show by laughing !!

You aren't missing much, mc. I didn't have a problem with it at all, but maybe it would have been more interesting if I had tried to beat the system? LOL

Stump, I took and passed the Poly yesterday. It was a little more difficult this time because, the Interviewer already had a file on me from the previous Poly that I'd taken. So my answers from 8 months ago had better have been consitant with my answers yesterday...they were and I passed. On with the process.

    Will keep you informed.
