    Yes another BQ question..MCPD

I know you guys are probably tired of hearing Background stories, but I couldn't resist...I am currently a 19 year old female who wants to apply at the age of 25/26. When I was 14, I was arrested for tresspassing/vandalism...however I didn't partake in the actual of vandalism but I was present. At the age of 15 I was arrested with a guy for having weed. I have never bought, sold, or transported weed however. I smoked weed a total of 9-10 times in my life. I have also tried coke once. I was tried as a juvie and not placed in juvie but I did community service and finished probation at the age of 15/16. At the ages of 17/18 I got a few driving tickets, and went to court for driving on a suspended lic ( didnt know it was suspended at the time) but the charges were dropped. My main question is if I graduate from college (currently a freshman) w/ a degree in psychology and then go onto and gradute from law school w/ about a ten year seperation in-between all this mayhem and keep my record clean from 19-26, what are my chances? also does add keep one from getting a PO position? I was diagnosed at age 18, but it has never been a huge problem. I am looking to apply with Montgomery County, MD dept. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Seriously though, the part about 'add' had me laughing hysterically. Isn't it called ADD? I was getting the sense that you might have some such condition as I read your post.

Anyway, doesn't sound like any of that is a permanent disqualifier (don't know about the ADD though) but you are likely to have an uphill battle ahead of you. Do well in school, stay out of trouble and develop maturity.

    Good luck!

Ashleigh, I know you came into chat and asked me to give an opinion. However, I can't in good conscience give an answer. I have no idea what would DQ you, nor if ADD is a problem. I suggest doing some searching and reading on here, while you wait for answers from those who can give you the answers you seek. Sorry I can be of no help to you.

    Good luck to you.

ashleigh, before any of the big old mean verifieds :-) come on here start disecting this background of yours, let me be frank with ya. In all honesty, your past is treacherous. Im 22, so i understand alil about what kids go through in high school and in college. I know the drug scene because i went to a college that all they did were drugs. You need to be strong and just stay away. But i stand here today stating there really are no excuses for your arrests and actions. Your words show that you are trying to make excuses for your actions. You were arrested for vandalism, so you didnt partake. Your actions alone of being there shows you were a accomplice. In NYS, an accomplice can be someone who just eggs on another with their words alone to commit an illegal act. Again, ill never tell someone to not apply, but perhaps you need to reevaluate your actions and take responsibility.

You have almost no chance of being hired as a police officer at any department I have heard of. Even if you find a department which doesn't auto DQ you for your past history (and 90+% will do just that), you will still be competing for a position against people with much cleaner backgrounds than you. Find a new carreer.

If you are going to law school anyway, then just be a lawyer...

I know so many officers that are in law school and no lawyers who what to hit a 22 week academy.

Having said that, I think a bunch of time in between those incidents and your application will be the biggest factor of being hired.

With your background, about 10 years of staying out of trouble and getting degrees should increase your chances significantly.
