    Undected Crimes

I have a question and wondering if you all can help me. While filling out my pre-screening questionnaire, they asked me if I committed any undetected crimes. A couple of years ago, I had illegal cable for about 2 months which I did not know at the time it was illegal and when I found out it was illegal; I disconnected and purchase legal cable. Would that considered as undetected crimes?

Be honest. If it went down the way you described, it won't hurt you if you come clean. If you neglect to mention it and it comes up, you're hosed.

just because you didnt know it was illegal does not get you off the hook. Lack of knowledge of the law is not a legal defense! However, like others have already stated, it is something that will not certainly DQ you so just tell them about it!

I totally understand but I've been working with the cable company for over 3 years after the incident so that I can help catch others and also help others to not get caught in the same situation that I got caught up on. Do you think that would help out when I put that type of info on the application?

first of all, explain the situation you were in? i really dont understand how someone who is receiving illegal cable doesnt know it is illegal. Second, its really not that big of deal. If that is the only thing that is going down on your application, i can not see how it will play any factor!

Who were you paying for the cable? You were paying for it, correct? After all, the whole "I didn't know it was illegal" argument doesn't hold much water when you were receiving a service for free that everyone else pays for. It's better to just admit your mistakes than try to make excuses that nobody (especially a police background investigator) is going to believe.

Well, I understand what you saying but as I was speaking to one of my friends who were going thru the process and they never asked him that question until the polygraph. When they asked him, he informed them that he created 1 fake insurance card as a joke about 5 years ago and they advise that it’s an undetected crime. He did not make it thru the background investigation because of that. Even though he gave it to a friend and when he tried to get it back, the friend was deceased. I guess the point was he did it from the beginning. He thought that it wouldn't hurt him but I guess it did for now. He is going thru the appeal process as we speak because he stated that he did not provide enough detail about the incident during the polygraph.

In most places, in order for a crime to occur, there has to be an intent to commit the crime. If you honestly didn't know about it, and fixed the problem when you found out about it, you won't have a problem.
