    Stealing from former employer

Just went through the written, physical and one-on-one interview for a department I applied to. Everything went good. I scored a 168 (84%) on the written (needed 148) and did great on the physical part of the testing. The interview went really well except for one thing. He asked the most expensive thing I have ever stolen from an employer. I was honest and answered, "I don't know, maybe a pen."

One part of me is telling myself that hey I was honest and if taking a pen is that big of a deal, so be it. Is this a big deal? He didn't seem to care and went on with the interview and said everything went well and that he would be in contact with me about setting up a possible date for the oral board.

So what do you guys think?

    Thanks guys

He's probably busy feverishly typing up a warrant for your arrest.

No, I don't think it'll hurt you much. You were honest and that's what is most important.

Come on...no offense but if you can't figure this one out then maybe you'll have bigger problems than this.

    No offense taken:D

I am just kicking myself because it is one of those things that I could have just said, "No I have never stolen from an employer." I mean a pen? Its not that I have other problems, it is just that everything else went so well that this little slip up stuck out so I was worried about it.

Thanks for both of your responses, I really appreciate it.

Are you kidding me. If you have ever taken one admit it. Don't lie about anything, especially a pen. Can you imagine failing the polygraph because of a pen and a lie?

Yes, I think so, but who the hell are "THEY?" :D

Navy O-4 had a placard on his desk that said, "Who the hell are THEY?"

It was just something to think about before you would go and bother him with a question.

It is an inside joke between me and myself(using a Russian accent).

My BI actually asked me that question as well, but he said "and I don't mean small stuff like a pen..."

Well if that's the case then what is big enough to let him know. A box of pens? Maybe that is $2 but it still seems petty. But I bet if you took money, even $2 it isn't going to look so good. Just MHO. I am going to cough up everything and let them decide what is petty and what isn't. I have been far more honest to this point than they would have expected, and so I will continue to be so. Hasn't got me DQed yet. BTW I have my poly in a week so I will see if too much honesty costs me.
