Every federal agency has different responsibilities, different rules, etc. Same goes for state and local. There is no 'most prestigious' as far as that goes. You can have the best agency in the world, but that can all change with a different administration. Every agency is different, every agency has good and bad points.

The best agency would have to be the Beverly hills police department. That has to be the hardest department to get into.

I would have to say that the New Jersey State Police is the most competitive state police agency. In the past seven years, more than 19,000 applied and less than 1,200 eventually became New Jersey Troopers. Because of its competitiveness, I would have to say that the NJSP is the most "prestigious" state agency, as well, although they have been blackballed for racial profiling in recent years. Plus, they have the nicest uniforms. Municipally, there is no doubt that the NYPD is the most prestigious department. What those guys did on 9/11 is unbelievable.
