    experimental Drug Usage

I have just turned 21 and getting ready to apply to police agencies in Florida. The phrase I keep running into is "experimental Drug Usage", but no one defines what that actually is. I know 99% of agencies require three years before they even look at you and my three years was up in February and i just turned 21 in March.

What do they actually consider "Experimental Drug Usage"?

    My drug background as follows

    Marijuana used 10 times between 2000-Feb 04
    Mushroom's 1 time Dec 03

I have never sold or bought drugs. ( i know surprising i never bought, but just took hits off my friends)

I have nothing on my record.

Sorry if this question has already been asked, i searched for awhile and didnt find anything.

    Thank you Everyone

Well the MJ usage may or may not be a problem. It'll depend on the agency. The 'Shroom issue may be more of a sticking point than the MJ.

    Psilocybin

Psilocybin one of the main psychoactive compounds in magic mushrooms. The active dose of psilocybin is 3-30 mg. The effects are psychotomimetic; psilocybin is considered a psychedelic drug.

The State of Arizona considers experimentation with marijuana to be no more than 20 uses, with no more than 5 allowed after age 21. Last use must have been three years prior to appointment as a peace officer.

Arizona considers no more than 5 uses, with no more than 1 use since the age of 21, to be experimental. Applicant may not have used a dangerous drug or narcotic within the past 7 years. Per Arizona Revised Statutes 13-3401, any amount of psilocybin is considered a dangerous drug or narcotic.

At this point, you do not meet the criteria for police in the State of Arizona.

    Thank you Sierra,

I started looking at Florida Statutes after you posted this reply.

    941.13 covers Qualifications

There is nothing I can find that spells out anything for drug usage

What I think it falls under is
Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the commission.
I have been looking at several applications over the past year and what i find all agencies say 3 years. I know Ft. Lauderdale says 3 years for Marijuana and anything else is 10.

What acreature is referring to here is a phenomenon known as Post Hallucinogen Perception Disorder (or previously Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder). Do a Google search if you want more details on this, but basically if you use a hallucinogenic drug (LSD, shrooms, peyote, etc.) in the past, you can re-experience the "tripping" high without actually using the substance again. The cause of this phenomenon is not known for sure, but LE agencies do know of this phenomenon, and like it or not, are often hesitant to hire those who have used hallucinogenic drugs, ever.

You'll likely find that some departments can forgive this with time, but others will automatically disqualify you indefinitely, for even a single usage of shrooms.

I personally wouldn´t consider marijuana use over four years to be experimental.
