    Highering Chances of getting Hired

What would you all suggest to do to higher your chances of getting hired (other than keeping your nose clean, of course).

I'm starting to really prepare myself for candidacy for either a police or firefighter position, and am just curious about different methods I can use to make myself a better candidate.

I'm in Search and Rescue and Civil Air Patrol, volunteer at the hospital every week, and have done many other short term volunteer projects. What else can I do?

    Thanks.

As suggestions for PD are all over the place, I will address FD. Several of the hiring personnel that I have spoken to in the Phoenix area suggest obtaining EMT certification at a minimum, with Paramedic the preferred cert. They also suggest taking coursework in fire aparatus (sp?) and similar. The community colleges out here offer certificates in that field. This will put you a little ahead of the group, especially if you get Paramedic over EMT.

    Good luck and you're welcome.
