    Hi guys i'm new

Hi guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm currently in the hiring process with the LAPD and just passed my Agility test. I have been to CAPS once and plan on going 3 times a week next month. I'm pretty much a saint i have never even tried drugs, got into any fights and i have never been pulled over. The only problem I have is that I was academically disqualified from college last spring. How will this affect my hiring process?

What does that mean? You were thrown out for bad grades?

If that's the case, they may question your level of responsibility and maturity. If you have a good reason for it (taking care of a dying relative, or something like that), then I'm sure it will be forgiven.
I used to care. Now I take a pill for that.

Depends on what you mean by Academically Disqualified. If it means that you were kicked out because of excessive Absences that will look bad, shows you have no dedication or maturity. If you were kicked out because of Bad Grades it also shows No Maturity, or lack of dedication, or a learning impairment that has gone undiagnosed. To be honest yes it may look bad but it depends on the circumstances and how desperate LAPD is to hire new recruits

Yes, it was because of bad grades. I was going through some personal things not knowing what i wanted to do with my life. Then I spoke with a police recruiter and thats when i realized that i want to become a police officer. Sounds kind of corny but thats what happened. Would they take into consideration that I made honor roll while in high school volunteered at a hospital and stayed out of trouble.

Just explain yourself to your background investigator. Assuming you pass everything else with flying colors, it's up to the hiring board (or whoever does it nowadays) to determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate.

    Good luck.

Ok, I'm kind of nervous about talking about it because I have always done well in school. Do you guys know of anyone in a similar situation as mine that has made it in the LAPD. I was thinking of going to the CAPS programs more often to show them how dedicated Iam to become and police officer.

CAPS means squat when it comes to getting hired. It's not even a consideration, so get that out of your mind. It's great to get you physically prepared for the academy, but that's all.

The only way you'll find someone in your situation is to ask officers or recruits. I don't think many officers would divulge their history to you, and good luck trying to find a recruit.

Just put your paperwork in, and hope for the best. You can't do anything else at this point.

Caps means something, the caps officers talk with the background investigators. Also, my mentor told me that they ask the CAPS instructor if a person is "squared Away.
