Would it be inappropriate for me to wear my working dress uniform to department contacts (interviews, etc.) while appling for a reserve position? I want to look professional without being too pretentious. I am current active duty.
Thanks!

Personally, I would see not problem with it.
Heck, at least it's not old blue jeans and a "Ratt" tee-shirt, right?![]()

This is true, however, I didn't know if that would be seen as pretentious. I'll avoid going in there full dress and medals. I was uncertain if I was still expected to be in civilian business attire despite my status.
Please note that i'm referring to the summer whites, white pants with a button up white shirt, patent leather shoes, and ribbons. I'm not referring to BDU's.

Do the regs allow for that? I am a Reservist with no active time, so I am not certain on that. I would not do it, but as a civilian, I have civilian clothes.

I'm not a reservist. I'm active duty military applying for a reserve LEO position.
The regulations permit the wear of the appropriate seasonal uniform and the service dress blues for "business ashore." The utility uniform and camoflauge utility uniform (BDU's) are not authorized.
HR, I would personally think you should let your resume speak for itself and just wear a nice suit. To me it would seem like you were trying to throw the fact that you are military in their face.
I know that wouldn't be your intention, but some folks may see it that way.
This of course is just my opinion, for me I hate wearing my uniform anywhere but work.

I had this same question in the past, but I decided against it. I don't want to go in there wearing something that say "hey, look at me I'm in the military and you had better give me a job" They will know you are military by your background and prescreen. I just didn't want to over emphasize the military card. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy what I do and don't regret one second of my service. I don't see any board getting a good impression from someone who is, in a way bragging with their choice of attire. All this is just my opinion, hope it helps in some way.

Go with the suit and tie. You will most likely be well ahead of most people that apply and let your background speak for itself. (even if you are a squid) LOL

I am aware you are Active Component. As a Reservist I have not really had to pay attention to where I could or could not wear the uniforms, so I was asking if regs would allow it. I know there are prohibitions (BDUs and Utilities allowed to and from work only) and that you can substitute (Crackerjacks anytime formal wear authorized), but did not know how a job search would come into play.
One work of advice, however. Summer Whites (Good Humour Man) are short sleeve and do not have a tie. in the case of an interview, you typically want a suit and tie, which cannot be done with Summer Whites.
Just my $.02.

I'll have to admit that i'm a bit torn. I'm leaning toward the suit and tie, however, i'm receiving offline reccomendations that I should present myself "as impressively as possible."
I agree with above, they will know your active military with your interview, and background investigation, no need to wear a military uniform to th interview.

If you were to wear the uniform, i would go with the dress whites and medals, that would be more impressive than the summer whites with ribbons.
