Racism and sexism are not the best ways to go about getting more diversity within police departments. If they want diversity, they should find new ways of interesting the minority into joining the police force.

I really hope that they get what's coming to them. The last place that racism/sexism should be seen in is the police communities, and guess what? That's exactly where it is!

You took your family and joined in the urban sprawl... can't see the stars as well but you're near the mall.

Sacramento PD has a great program where they get community leaders together in a class and give them the information they need to become community recruiters. I have no doubt that a diverse police department is necessary. There are many cultures that, as hard as I try, I will never fully understand. Customs, taboos, languages. Having officers that have an understanding of that culture would be a great benefit to the community. In my apartment complex alone, there are at least six different languages spoken. Mandarin, Japanese, Russian, English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Farsi. Those are the ones I know about. I'm sure there are more. Having officers that speak those languages and understand those cultures is a must in my opinion. But the fact remains that affirmative action is racism. There are better ways to recruit miniorities than by simply excluding the majority.
