Few Questions on Application & BI

    1) On the Application it asks if you have been convicted of any crime?

Does that include speeding tickets, or would that go under motor vehicle offense?

    2) I've been involved in two motor vehicle accidents in my life, one when i was 16 and i tapped the vehicle infront of me with my bumper at about 2 MPH, i pulled over into a near by gas station but the vehicle didn't follow me. Their was no noticeable damage to his vehicle from what i can see, i had a minor dent in my bumper.

Second would be on Summer of 2006 i drove my company vehicle for mall security into a cement no parking sign, doing some damage to the quarter panel.

I never was ticketed, or went to court for either of these, so my question is does a BI ask you what motor vehicle accidents you have been in or should i just explain to the BI the incidents, or just disregard them?

    Thanks.

Your background packet will ask you all of these sort of things. In my application that I have out currently it is called the Personal History Statement.
Just one of many reasons to wear a helmet!

Not listing these would be a lie of omission. It is better to be DQ'd for something borderline than for deception, which would surely have an effect on your ability to get hired at another department.

There's a section for traffic accidents, and for tickets. It is separate, or should be, from the listing of criminal charges.

Good luck. I just turned my PHS in today, so I know what you're goin through!

so just to get this straight, i would fill this information out on a background packet once i get that far? Or do i fill it under Motor Vehicle offenses on the application.

On the application for Motor Vehicle Offenses it asks for

    - Offense
    - Date
    - Diposition
    - Location

I say put EVERYTHING you can remember in your background packet...or else when the examiner asks you "Have you purposely omitted information in your personal history statement", you run the risk of having those needles jump.

Besides; these soudn like very minor incidents, and I don't think a B.I would DQ you for it.

Ok, i am not even to the point of a background packet, so i guess once a physical, the test and oral board are passed i'll get a packet to put all this stuff?

I am mainly just curious if that information belongs in the inital Application itself.

When you get to your Background History Statement, it will have a whole section for traffic accidents. It will ask how many accidents you've been in, when they occured, whether or not you were at fault, etc. On the initial appliction, or Pre-Screening Packet, they're usually only interested in traffic offenses (tickets). Unless you were involved in an accident in which you received a traffic citation, I'd say it's safe to wait until you get the History Statement to list the accidents. But make sure you DO tell them when the time comes.

I don't know how far apart they were, but assuming you had more than a few years between the incidents, I find it highly unlikely that any department would DQ you for that alone. You can however be DQ'd for attempting to deceive them. It's one thing not to remember an incident from 9 years ago, but to intentionally omit an incident that you have a clear recollection of is deceitful behavior, and that (if detected) will get you shown the door.

Your parents probably remember the accidents, and when they answer "yes" to the question "has he ever been involved in an accident?", you're not going to look too good.
