    Looking for reassurance..

    Hello,

Im currently in several hiring processes and also finishing up a 4 year Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. I will be a state certified EMT-Basic in June, and will have graduated with a GPA of 3.2 (minimum). I am a member of an honor society, was a president of a campus organization for 2 years and completed a 320-hour internship at one of the agencies i am applying for.

Alright, now onto the 'bad' stuff and the questions. I have used MJ once, 4-5 years ago after a high school dance. When I was younger I had stolen a few lawn gnomes and silly lawn ordaments like that. I have no traffic violations and a clear criminal history. My question is, the PHQ does cover the drug use, and I feel that this drug use shouldn't have a huge negative effect, however the questions don't delve into crimes you may have committed that you weren't caught for. Would questions regarding stealing in my adolescence come up on the polygraph? Should I be worried about this, or not?

P.S. I passed the written (99% correct) and did very well on the physical agility for this department, so i feel really good about things so far, not that this has any effect on your answers, just thought i would share incase anyone was curious!

The drug use will not be a major issue if, indeed, it was one time 4 - 5 years ago.

You will be asked if you committed any crimes for which you were not caught. Did you return the items or make reimbursement to the victims? The department will want to see that you are holding yourself accountable for your action. Making restitution is on way of doing so.

Is it a major thing? A major item the department is looking for in its candidates is honesty and integrity. Is the fact you still the d@mn gnome a major crisis? No. The fact that you never atoned for your action could be.

That's kidnapping in my state. Think of those poor Gnome orphans you created that night!

Anyway, they don't ask "questionS"..at least not here. The way it's worded is something like "Have you EVER committed a crime for which you were not caught..etc..etc". So that means for your entire life, counting the little pieces of bubblegum you snatched for little susie rotten...er..Smith, when you were in the 1st Grade.

You sound like you'll do fine. Just be honest and have fun spilling your guts! :D

    My first poly...

Have you ever taken anything from an employer?

    Uh, yeah, in the Marines.

    What?

Umm, maps and stuff for ops, oh and a humvee or three, oh yeah and an amtrak, some MRE's, little stuff, but we brought them back when we were done, except the MRE's. Oh and there were those things from the Army and the Navy when we played aggressor.

    Ok, we'll skip that one.

Have you ever made any explosive devices?

Well, yeah, we made all sorts of cool stuff that blew up in the Marines.

Oh, ok, we'll skip that one too.

Have you ever had inappropriate sexual contact with an animal other than human... never mind, I've seen some of the stuff you Marines bring home :D

    That poly wan't so bad:D
