So I take it my best bet is to fly down and take the CJBAT and SHIELD exam correct? Is there a standard agility exam the colleges also give? I would like to set something up soon, I can't handle this weather any longer...
Most, if not all South Florida PD's, will accept the tests given at BCC (Broward Community College). The tests consist of the CJBAT, TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), Physical Agility Test and a swimming test. Not all departments require all of the tests, but taking all of them will open the doors to you being able to apply to nearly all of the PD's down here. I've never heard of a SHIELD test, but maybe that's a requirement for the Central and Northern Florida PD's.

This link may be helpful to you:

It's a pdf file of the Pembroke Pines Police Department's application. If you scroll towards the bottom, it will tell you everything you need to know as far as the BCC tests go. I hope this helps! :D

When I take the exams how many departments should I apply to? I was thinking two. I’m not sure how the departments handle people from out of state, meaning how many times I would have to fly down.

How long is the process for start to finish?

    Thanks again

Beautiful beaches come at a hefty price.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office administers the SHIELD test. Here is their website: http://www.pbso.org/.

It looks like they are only hiring certified officers.
