It's not terribly hard. I was 14 days to complete my personal history statement, and have it notarized. I'm on the 5th day, and I am nearly done. The hard things are finding contact information for old, out-of-state landlords, as well as neighbors or people who have tangible knowledge of you residing in a given residence.

It's a bit difficult to remember the move in/out date for all of the places you have resided, as well as the hire dates at all of your employers, but I believe these are best-guess kind of scenario's. As long as you're in the ballpark, and not attempting to deceive anyone, you're alright...

I understand how you feel. The first department that I applied to handed me the personal history packet, and said have it back in a month. I thought to myself, this should be no problem. I spent every day of that month working on the packet.

Department #2 didn't take nearly as long, but I forgot to do one thing. Make a copy of the first packet. Still waiting for that department to get the act together and open another employment window.

I now have a nice fat folder of information such as transcripts, Birth Certificates, Marriage Licenses, and various other info. I'm testing for the third department on Saturday and will be receiving a Personal History Packet after the written and PAT. I should have that filled out by the next weekend.

The only positive thing I see to filling out multiple history statements is the following. I have managed to remember some things that I had managed to forget over the years. That and I can fill one out quickly.

Watch out for the hand cramps.

Is there a certain time frame of history they require or is it all the way back to birth pretty much? The last 5 years of addresses & landlords will be simple (thanks to the military), but before that I can't remember for the life of me the specific addresses or landlords. The employers will be fairly simple prior to military as well. Do I get this package after the entrance exam or before? I plan on applying for 3 LEO positions around Tucson. Arizona DPS, Tucson PD, Pima Co. Sheriff, so I think it will be tough on the first one filling everything out, then easier and easier.

Every Department runs things a little different. The norm of the four that I have applied to all required you to pass a physical test and written test prior to receiving the background packet.

Oddly enough that will thin out the amount of eligible applicants by about 40 percent. Unfortunately on the 2nd dept I managed to severly sprain my ankle during the PAT. I was a little over zealous clearing the fence. Ouch.

Only one have I filled out the application and personal history packet before doing the physical testing.

Again it all depends on the department. On all departments I have contacted, they gave me a rough idea of the process. That is if it wasn't posted online. The department I'm testing for Saturday has given me a full schedule of when things will be occuring. Including final offer and academy start date.

Of the history packets I've filled out they were looking for the following. Where you lived for the past 10 years. Employers you have had from day one, Roommates, references, transcripts, Birth Certificate, Discharge Papers, Marriage and or divorce certificate, family members varied from close to extended. membership in clubs/organizations. Schooling, special quals, various job related questions. And the list goes on. You won't know what they want until they ask for it. So start mapping out your history now.
