what are typical post t-scores and what do they really mean?

I've passed my POST, PHQ, Phys, and Orals, am now in BI. I understand that the POST T-score serves to disqualify a certain number of applicants, but beyond that, how is the score used? I have read the article on the California POST website about how the score can be used as a predictor of academy success or failure.

To be honest I don't understand most of the technical explanations about how the scores are weighted, but saw that T-77.8 is the highest possible score. Since I received a score of T-71.6, would that help me in any way, or would I be considered on a pass/fail basis, ranked with all those who passed?

I have learned a lot from reading the posts here so thanks for all the good info that's been posted. One suggestion to posters: make your subject title reflect the content. It's frustrating to sift through posts titled "one question" or "help" or "anyone know the answer?" you get the point.
